Get Shailene Woodley on the phone.
Veronica Roth, author of the Divergent series, has announced two new books set in that same world. Titled The Sixth Faction, the books are scheduled for release on October 6th, as she revealed at New York BookCon.
It’s been fifteen years since the first book in Veronica Roth’s Divergent series came out. The movie adaptations began in 2014, featuring Shailene Woodley as the main character, Beatrice “Tris” Prior, and Theo James as Tobias “Four” Eaton.
These aren’t continuations of the original story; instead, the new books explore alternative scenarios – what if Tris had made different choices?
In an interview with USA Today published on April 18th, Veronica Roth described her new book as not a continuation of the Divergent series, but a reimagining set in an alternate universe where Tris makes a different choice about which faction to join. Roth explained that she was intrigued by the question of ‘who Tris would be if she hadn’t joined Dauntless’.
So, what can fans expect from the two books?
According to publisher HarperCollins, The Sixth Faction centers around Beatrice Prior, who is facing a life-changing decision that everyone in her world must make: choosing one of five factions to define their future. Beatrice plans to be courageous and leave her current faction, Abnegation, to join Dauntless, even though this means separating from her family.
However, when a terrible event happens during the Choosing Ceremony, everything is altered – her life, her future, and even who Beatrice is as a person.
Yet, even in this alternate universe, it seems she and Four still cross paths.
The story’s main character makes a choice that puts her directly in the middle of a secret rebellion. It also leads her to a mysterious boy who holds dangerous secrets, and who is known only by a number instead of a name.

You know, if it were up to Shailene Woodley, she’d probably jump at the chance to revisit her Divergent role. She’s been pretty open about how bummed she was that they never finished the series with Allegiant Part Two after the first one came out in 2016. It’s always a little sad when a story you’re invested in doesn’t get its proper ending, isn’t it?
She mentioned in October to Elite Daily that she’d love to finish the Divergent movie series, even though they never got the chance. While everyone is older now, she believes it could still be successful if they found a way to make it happen.
I’m still hoping we might see Shailene Woodley as Tris again! She’s mentioned how bummed she was that they never finished the Divergent series with Allegiant Part Two after the first one came out in 2016, and honestly, if it wasn’t for the time that’s passed, I think she’d be totally up for revisiting the role.
She mentioned in October to Elite Daily that she’d love to finish the Divergent movie series, even though they never got the chance. While everyone involved is older now, she believes a final film could still be successful.

As you’re pondering what might have happened to Tris in Veronica Roth’s other possible story, here are some more books to enjoy this spring.

Release: March 10
T Kira Madden’s book opens with Birdie fleeing to the isolated Whidbey Island near Seattle, trying to escape a painful past – specifically, the childhood abuse she suffered at the hands of Calvin Boyer. But her escape is complicated when news breaks that Calvin has been murdered. The story then unfolds through the eyes of three people: Birdie, Linzie (another survivor who publicly shared her story in a popular book), and Mary-Beth, Calvin’s mother who remains loyal to him.
The author of Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls, Whidbey’s first novel is intentionally challenging at times. But she navigates these difficult themes with sensitivity, resulting in a book that is both thought-provoking and powerfully written.

Interestingly, the writing process wasn’t without its challenges, as the author and biographer reportedly disagreed on certain aspects of the book.

The story alternates between Natalie’s ascent to online fame and her struggles to survive in the past, offering a captivating and unpredictable look at the world of “tradwife” influencing.

Patrick Radden Keefe’s April 7th article in The New Yorker explores the tragic story of Zac Brettler, a British teenager who lived a double life pretending to be the son of a Russian oligarch. Given Keefe’s reputation as the author of acclaimed books like Say Nothing and Empire of Pain, readers might have wondered if there was anything new to learn. However, Keefe delivers a compelling and honest look at the dangerous world of wealth and influence that Zac became involved in, and the determined search for answers by his family after his death in 2019.

Coming April 7th, Emma Straub’s new book takes a heartwarming look at fandom. It follows Annie, a 50-year-old divorced woman, on a cruise celebrating Boy Talk, the boy band she loved as a teenager. The book offers a genuine and respectful exploration of aging, celebrity, and the impact of pop culture on our lives.
What really makes Straub’s book so effective isn’t just its thorough look at the cruise experience through the eyes of Annie, pop star Keith, and cruise worker Sarah. It’s that the specific boy band isn’t important – she perfectly captures the nostalgic feeling of young love in a way that feels universal and enduring.

I’m completely hooked on this new release, coming out April 14th! The story centers around Cherry, and honestly, it’s heartbreaking. Her ex took their relationship and turned it into a super popular graphic novel – making him famous in the process! Now she’s trying to rebuild her life, and things get even more interesting when someone from her past, Russ, reappears. I’m really hoping he helps her heal and move on – it’s a story I’m already invested in!

Back home, Cal is trying to hide his sexuality and navigate a difficult relationship with his father, which is filled with a mix of love, frustration, and even occasional violence.
Ultimately, the core of this complex situation lies in the shared experiences both parties refuse to recognize. It’s a deeply affecting and honest story exploring the relationships between fathers and sons, the weight of the past, and homophobia in 1990s Scotland—solidifying Douglas Stuart’s reputation as an author you shouldn’t miss.

Oh my gosh, you guys, the movie comes out May 5th! I’m already counting down the seconds! Basically, it’s about this girl, Frankie, and can you imagine waking up the day before your wedding to a note saying it’s OFF?! Heartbreaking, right? But she’s amazing because instead of falling apart, she decides to still go on the honeymoon to this gorgeous place called Tofino in Canada – seriously, look it up, it’s breathtaking! And she doesn’t go alone, her best friend George goes with her, even though he’s a little hesitant. It’s so exciting because they haven’t been close in years, and this trip is a chance for them to reconnect… or maybe even realize they’re meant to be more than just friends! I’m already predicting ALL the feels.

Premiering on May 5th, this story begins with the arrival of American actress Monica Logue in Derry, Northern Ireland. She’s there to prepare for a new TV show about The Troubles, but she quickly goes missing. Her disappearance becomes the talk of the town, sparking rumors and theories. The story unfolds through the eyes of various people connected to the show and the historical events it portrays. Woven throughout these perspectives is the struggle of the show’s screenwriter to finish his work.
This film is a moving and often humorous look at how The Troubles continue to affect Northern Ireland, and the strange feeling of watching a difficult past be turned into a tourist attraction.

Coming May 19th, the author of the popular Hollywood Renaissance series returns with a new novel. This story follows screenwriter Verity, who must work with the composer who once broke her heart on a biopic about the Harlem Renaissance.
