The recent revival of Scrubs pleased many fans by bringing back the beloved characters, though a few changes weren’t well-received. The show returned in February 2026 for a tenth season, with Zach Braff as J.D., now the chief of medicine, and Donald Faison as Turk, the new chief of surgery. Sarah Chalke reprised her role as Elliot, and a fresh group of interns stirred up trouble at Sacred Heart. Unfortunately, John C. McGinley only appeared occasionally as Dr. Cox.
A discussion on Reddit started about who should be the new bad guy on the show, and fans had different opinions. The person who started the thread was excited about Joel Kim Booster playing Dr. Kevin Park, but many commenters didn’t agree with the choice.
Scrubs Reboot Changes the Villain Role

The new Scrubs series significantly altered Dr. Cox’s character. He went from being a challenging figure in J.D.’s life to more of a supportive mentor. The show established J.D. as the new head of medicine, and revealed that Dr. Cox was battling an autoimmune disease with a potentially fatal prognosis unless he received proper care. J.D. dedicated himself to finding a treatment for Dr. Cox, which created a vacancy for a new source of conflict – a role filled by Dr. Park.
The original poster felt that Dr. Park served as a compelling villain or antagonist, especially considering the change in Dr. Cox’s character. This opinion resonated with many commenters, though not all agreed. Some felt Dr. Park showed potential but needed more development to feel fully realized, arguing he currently comes across as simply being antagonistic without a clear motivation. They pointed out that the dynamic between Dr. Cox and Dr. Kelso worked so well because the show allowed time for viewers to understand both of their viewpoints.
One viewer who enjoyed Dr. Park’s character thought the season was too short to fully develop his story. The reboot only had nine episodes, compared to the original series which had over 20 per season for six seasons. They commented that the finale hinted at deeper layers to Dr. Park, and that it was satisfying to see him unaware of how villainous he appeared. They also believed that with more episodes, Dr. Park and J.D. could have developed a mutual respect for each other.
Despite the positive reception to the reboot, many viewers weren’t impressed with Dr. Park as a replacement. While Dr. Cox’s character development seems secure, and he won’t revert to being a villain, viewers felt Dr. Park didn’t earn his place in the story. One viewer even called him the worst part of the reboot, explaining that the character lacked a clear purpose, backstory, or any meaningful impact on the plot or J.D.’s journey.
One viewer strongly disliked the character, finding nothing positive about him. They said they hated every scene he appeared in, noting that even the other “villains” on Scrubs had some redeeming or amusing qualities. In contrast, they felt Dr. Park was simply unpleasant, not funny, and completely unlikeable.
I have to admit, Dr. Park really got under my skin at first. He’s the doctor at Sacred Heart who was passed over for the chief of medicine position – Dr. Cox picked J.D. instead, and Park never let it go. He was constantly trying to one-up J.D., and honestly, he came across as a really harsh and entitled bully. It was satisfying to see him called out on his behavior in the finale, even if he tried to play it off as a joke. He clearly wanted to be the next Dr. Cox, but didn’t seem to understand that Cox’s tough exterior had a purpose. While I think he started off strong, I really hope the reboot gives him more depth in the second season. He needs to earn his place on the show, and I’m curious to see how they develop his character.
