So far in 2026, Capcom dominates the top games – two out of the three highest-rated titles are theirs, one being a new game and the other a re-release. While we’re nearly three months into the year, 2026 has had a slow start, and the upcoming months don’t look much better. There are a few noteworthy games planned, but overall, the first half of the year seems to be lacking major releases.
Looking for a great new game? Check out Resident Evil Requiem, currently the highest-rated game of 2026. It’s earned an 88 on Metacritic, putting it at the top of Metacritic’s Best Games This Year list. The second-highest-rated game is the indie title Mewgenics, but the third spot also belongs to a Capcom game.
Resident Evil Dominance
Capcom is having a fantastic year, with games currently holding the top and third spots on best-of-the-year lists. Notably, one of those top games is a Resident Evil title! This week saw the release of Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition on Nintendo Switch, where it’s already received an impressive score of 87 on Metacritic. This is well-deserved, as the original game earned an 86 when it first came out in 2017.
The Gold Edition of Resident Evil Village was also released on Nintendo Switch 2 this week, as shown in the trailer. While it received a good score of 80, it hasn’t earned a place among the highest-rated games of the year so far.
Capcom’s recent success is even more remarkable considering they have several highly anticipated games still on the way this year, including the eagerly awaited Pragmata. Other upcoming titles include Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection. Overall, it looks like Capcom is set for another strong year, continuing their impressive performance over the last few years.
