2 Popular MCU Stars Not Returning for Avengers: Doomsday — Report

Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, recently mentioned that sometimes as many as 30 or 35 actors were on the set of Avengers: Endgame at the same time. However, reports indicate that Evangeline Lilly and Natalie Portman weren’t among them.

Which 2 MCU heroes will not be in Avengers: Doomsday?

A reliable source, The Beyond Reporter, recently shared on X that Evangeline Lilly won’t appear in “Avengers: Doomsday”—at least, not yet. The addition of “for now” suggests there’s a chance she could be added to the movie later through additional filming.

A source revealed that Lady Thor won’t appear in Avengers: Doomsday. This goes against earlier reports from another insider, MAJESTIC_ucm, who said in March 2026 that Lady Thor would join the army arriving to help Thor.

It’s not unexpected that Lilly and Portman weren’t in the Doomsday film, as their characters haven’t been central to the Avengers storyline. Portman’s character, Jane Foster, has only appeared in the Thor movies, with a brief appearance through old footage in Avengers: Endgame.

Evangeline Lilly’s character, Hope van Dyne, also known as Wasp, was mostly featured in the Ant-Man films and only briefly appeared in the final battle of Endgame. Because Lilly has stepped away from acting, fans were surprised to hear about a potential role in the upcoming Doomsday movie. There’s been speculation that Marvel might recast the part with Ana de Armas or even write Wasp out of the story, but it’s currently unclear what they will decide.

The next Avengers movie, titled Doomsday, will happen after the stories told in Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It will be a massive team-up, bringing together the Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men for the first time in a movie, as they face off against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.

The Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, are directing the upcoming Avengers film, currently titled ‘Doomsday,’ which is planned for release on December 18, 2026, as part of the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
