Marvel has created many excellent shows as part of its Cinematic Universe, ranging from live-action series to animated ones. While not every show has been a hit, several have stood out, including popular titles like Loki, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and the recent Wonder Man. However, a particularly strong show premiered two years ago today, and it’s arguably one of Marvel’s most overlooked gems – it truly deserves another season.
The animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur premiered on February 10, 2023, bringing the popular comic book duo to life on television. The show wasn’t just a simple adaptation; creators Jeffrey M. Howard, Steve Loter, and Kate Kondell infused Lunella and Devil Dinosaur’s world with vibrant personality, culture, and style. It was incredibly charming, balancing exciting superhero action with strong character development and heartfelt moments, all brought to life by a fantastic cast. Although the show was cancelled after two seasons, many fans believe it deserved a third, and hope it might happen in the future.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Is Still One of Marvel’s Best Shows

From the beginning, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur featured a fantastic voice cast, led by Diamond White as Moon Girl and Fred Tatasciore as Devil Dinosaur. Even though Devil Dinosaur doesn’t talk, Tatasciore’s performance and the show’s animation made him a lovable and engaging character who truly stood out.
What really struck me about this show was how beautifully it built a family around Lunella and Devil Dinosaur. It wasn’t just about them; the supporting characters felt just as important to the story. Alfre Woodard as Mimi and Libe Barer as Casey were particularly fantastic. They weren’t just there to move Lunella’s story forward – they had really engaging journeys of their own, and they constantly created interesting situations that kept me hooked.
Adria (Sasheer Zamata), Pops (Gary Anthony Williams), James Jr. (Jermaine Fowler), and Eduardo (Michael Cimino) were all key characters throughout the show. It also featured fantastic guest stars, with Laurence Fishburne’s portrayal of The Beyonder being a particularly memorable performance.
This series stood out from other Marvel shows and had a personality all its own, while still feeling connected to the larger Marvel universe. The world felt incredibly real, and the characters were so engaging that I often wished they could join the live-action Marvel films and TV shows – and I still think that would be a great move.

Adding these characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe would instantly enrich it. Just imagining possibilities like Lunella Lafayette meeting Reed Richards, or Devil Dinosaur unexpectedly showing up at Avengers Headquarters while Casey manages the online buzz from their fight, is incredibly exciting.
The show was a hit with both critics and viewers. The first season received a perfect 100% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences giving it a 91% score. Though only a few critics reviewed the second season, audience approval was even stronger at 93%.
As a huge Marvel fan, I was absolutely thrilled by Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. It really was a standout show, and I was so disappointed when it ended. With Marvel thinking about revisiting some older projects, I really hope they consider bringing Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur back – it felt genuinely special and different from anything else they’ve done recently.
