The idea of a multiverse – countless different universes existing alongside our own – has been popular in science fiction for years. Now, it’s become a major trend in mainstream entertainment, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe exploring it in their latest saga and the Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All at Once built entirely around the concept. Because it’s such a compelling idea, it’s no surprise to see even more developments, like the news we’re sharing today.
I’m so excited! Apple TV just gave us a fantastic update on the next season of Dark Matter. Not only will Season 2 premiere on August 28th, with new episodes coming out every week through October, but they’ve also shared what the new season is all about. It’s been almost two years since we last saw these characters, which seems to be pretty common with streaming shows these days, but this season is promising something really big – they’re finally going to answer a question fans have been waiting for ten years to get answered! And it sounds like the show is going to move beyond the original Blake Crouch book it’s based on, which is incredibly exciting!
Dark Matter Reveals Season 2 First Look After Two-Year Wait

Dark Matter, starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, centers around Jason Dessen, a physics professor who finds himself in a parallel universe after a mysterious abduction. It turns out another version of himself is behind it all. Season 2, according to Apple TV, will take place sometime later, with the Dessen family attempting to build a peaceful life until unforeseen events force them to flee again. Jason remains fixated on the technology that transported him, and this obsession creates problems, particularly as Dayo Okeniyi’s character, Leighton, pursues his ambitious goal of building a flawless world.

Viewers who enjoyed Blake Crouch’s 2016 novel will be pleased to know that this season of Dark Matter is finally adapting the book’s intended ending – an ending the original story never got to explore in a follow-up. The remaining episodes will feature completely new content, meaning even those familiar with the book will be surprised by what happens next.

This situation might usually cause concern, but fans of the show and book can rest easy knowing Blake Crouch is deeply involved. He’s the creator, executive producer, showrunner, and a writer on the series, working alongside executive producers Matt Tolmach, Richard Lederer, and Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry. He co-wrote every episode of Dark Matter’s second season with Ben-Zekry.

Season 2 of Dark Matter features Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley, and Amanda Brugel. The new season begins August 28th, and the final episode will air on October 30th.
