2 Years On, King Kong’s Last MonsterVerse Fight Just Got Even Cooler

As a huge MonsterVerse fan, I was blown away by what Kong’s latest adventure in the DC Universe did for the story! If you haven’t seen Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire from 2024, you really should. That’s where we last saw Kong – he found out there was a whole tribe of apes like him living down in the Hollow Earth, but they were ruled by this really nasty ape called the Skar King. The movie ended with an incredible battle between Kong and the Skar King, and Kong got a serious power-up with this awesome glove called the B.E.A.S.T. to help him!

DC is building on the previous MonsterVerse movies in its new team-up, Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2. This time, the Justice League and Suicide Squad travel to the MonsterVerse, where chaos has erupted. King Ghidorah has united a massive force of Titans from both the surface world and the Hollow Earth, including the Skar King and his powerful ally, Shimo. A war is brewing, and while the Skar King seeks revenge against Kong, Kong isn’t facing this battle alone – he’s getting some much-needed assistance.

Green Lantern Arms Kong to the Teeth for Final Fight with Skar King

Okay, so I just read Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2 #7, and it’s wild! Basically, Kong bursts out of the Hollow Earth right as this new villain, the Skar King, shows up. Things get tense fast because Kong isn’t backing down, and the Skar King wants him and anyone else who opposes King Ghidorah eliminated. And it’s bad news for Martian Manhunter – Ghidorah and Rodan are absolutely destroying him, even after he goes all Titan-sized! Luckily, Green Lantern shows up to help, which was a relief because things were looking pretty grim for the League.

Okay, so Hal Jordan managed to create a version of Parallax, and it actually did some damage to Skar King’s forces! It started to shift things a little in our heroes’ direction, but honestly, they really needed Godzilla. He was still recovering from his previous battle, which was a huge worry. Luckily, Mister Terrific and Batman had a plan – they teamed up Godzilla with Mothra to help him heal faster and get back in the fight. Seriously, it couldn’t have come at a better time! The Titans were swarming Kong, and everything the heroes were throwing at them just wasn’t enough.

The battle starts to shift in the heroes’ direction when Godzilla quickly defeats the smaller Titans. Batman manages to level the playing field against Skar King by destroying the crystal that gives him control over Shimo. With Shimo no longer supporting Skar King, Kong is free to fully focus on his long-standing enemy. While Jordan can’t give Kong a Green Lantern ring again, he provides the next best solution: equipping Kong with armor and a mace made of energy constructs. Kong immediately uses these new weapons to overpower Skar King, relentlessly attacking his foe.

Kong’s Green Lantern Weapons Are Just That Much Cooler Than the B.E.A.S.T. Glove

I really enjoyed seeing Kong get the B.E.A.S.T. Glove in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It was crucial for keeping him fighting after Shimo damaged his arm, and it definitely boosted his strength during the final battle with the Skar King – plus, it looked awesome! However, the glove’s abilities were somewhat limited and didn’t have the same powerful, almost magical quality as something like a Green Lantern’s energy creation.

The biggest letdown was Kong not getting to use a Power Ring again, as he did in the last team-up. However, Hal Jordan was a good friend, providing Kong with weapons, knowing he’d put them to good use. The battle between Kong and Skar King in New Empire was lengthy, but once Kong received a huge, glowing green mace, he quickly defeated Skar King – which makes sense, as a mace is a more effective weapon than the gauntlet Skar King used.

As a huge cinema fan, I’m all about these unexpected team-ups! It’s amazing to see something like Kong, already a legend, get even more powerful thanks to a hero like Green Lantern – it just works in the world of comics. It’s definitely wilder than the usual MonsterVerse stuff with the Titans, but seeing Kong decked out in Green Lantern armor and wielding those weapons is exactly the kind of over-the-top fun I love. I really hope the studio considers another crossover because I’d be thrilled to see Kong rocking a Power Ring again!
