20 Strongest My Hero Academia Quirks And Their Weaknesses

As the original anime concludes with its eighth and final season around late 2025, viewers have a clear understanding of how the series’ unique power system, known as Quirks, functions in battle. Some Quirks proved effective when needed, while others became incredibly powerful, almost to an unbelievable degree.

During the fight against the Paranormal Liberation Front, the strongest Quirks on both sides proved decisive. We saw that One For All and All For One, as rivals, had incredible, seemingly limitless power. Abilities of that magnitude can make a hero or villain legendary, but such power always comes with drawbacks. Even the most formidable Quirks have weaknesses that opponents can use to gain an advantage and change the course of a fight.

Togata’s Permeation Quirk Takes Extreme Training To Master

Mirio Togata, a student at UA High, is incredibly strong now, but he wasn’t always. He used to struggle with his Quirk, Permeation, often phasing through things incorrectly and getting stuck. This made him one of the weakest students at UA for a while, which surprised Deku when he found out.

Even more challenging, Mirio loses his senses of sight and hearing when he becomes intangible. While using his Permeation ability, he’s effectively blind and deaf, forcing him to rely on his instincts and careful strategy to locate and fight his opponents. Through dedicated practice, Mirio has refined his Quirk, turning what was once a difficult-to-control ability into one of the most powerful in My Hero Academia.

Explosion Makes Heavy Demands On Bakugo’s Body

Katsuki Bakugo’s explosion ability is incredibly strong, the sort you’d expect from a professional hero. But even with such a powerful ability, he has weaknesses. One key issue is that while he can create explosions rapidly, building up enough power for truly massive blasts takes time.

One thing I find really interesting about Bakugo’s quirk is that the bigger the explosion, the more it takes a toll on him. He can’t just keep unleashing massive blasts one after another without hurting himself. That’s why he designed those gauntlets for his hero costume – they help him manage the power and keep his arms from getting completely wrecked! But get this – he’s actually willing to take those gauntlets off sometimes to throw opponents off, like he did when he and Deku were sparring with All Might. It’s a brilliant, if risky, tactic!

Endeavor’s Hellflame May Be Effective, But Its Dangerously Destructive

Endeavor’s Hellflame is a very strong ability that allows him to do incredible things. He can fly, create weapons made of fire, and move incredibly fast. Plus, he can handle the intense heat it generates thanks to his high heat resistance.

I’ve noticed Endeavor has a real limit to how long he can use his flames – they generate so much heat that he risks overheating. Because of this, he specifically looked for a wife with an ice-based Quirk, hoping their child would be able to control his intense heat, and we see that result with Shoto Todoroki’s abilities. It’s a shame, though, that his first three children – Toya, Fuyumi, and Natsuo – didn’t quite inherit the combination of fire and ice in the way he’d planned.

Shemage’s Mushroom Quirk is an Environmental Disaster Waiting to Happen

I’ve been studying heroes for a while now, and Kinoki Komori, or ‘Shemage’ as everyone calls her, is truly unique. Her Quirk is deceptively powerful – she can release mushroom spores and instantly grow any type of fungus she wants. It’s not about brute force; she basically incapacitates opponents with mushrooms, and it doesn’t even harm her! Honestly, it’s a little scary when you consider she could disrupt whole environments with minimal effort. She’s a serious threat, even if she doesn’t seem like one at first glance.

Shemage can choose what kind of mushroom she creates, but she can’t prevent them from being poisonous. This puts her allies and anyone nearby in danger, demanding careful strategy to avoid serious problems. To help manage this risk, Shemage uses two aerosol pistols to control where her spores go and how strongly they affect things.

The Reflection Quirk Has Limits

Powers that automatically reflect attacks almost always lead to trouble, as seen in many anime. In the My Hero Academia movie, Flect Turn’s ability to do this nearly defeated Deku.

This ability is incredibly strong, but it can’t handle unlimited attacks. Deku figured this out and kept relentlessly attacking. With enough power and determination, the Reflection ability can be broken. The fight between Reflection and One For All was almost a test of willpower – a battle to see which ability would fail first. Luckily, Reflection was the one that gave way.

Dark Shadow is the Only Quirk Shown to Make One for All Afraid

Fumikage Tokoyami, also known as the Jet Black Hero: Tsukuyomi, has a unique ability: he can create a living shadow named Dark Shadow. Dark Shadow is powerful and adaptable, making it a serious challenge for villains. Tsukuyomi has also learned to enhance his ability by creating areas of darkness and even using his clothes, which allows him to fly and strengthen his powers.

Dark Shadow is very weak to light; attacks using light can break it apart or even destroy it completely. Conversely, complete darkness can overwhelm Tsukuyomi’s quirk. Because Dark Shadow is a conscious entity, Tsukuyomi doesn’t control it through commands, but rather relies on a mutual understanding and respect.

The Electrification Quirk Fries Its User’s Brain

Denki Kaminari is a valuable asset thanks to his powerful Electrification Quirk, which is among the strongest in My Hero Academia. He has the potential to become a truly great hero. He can control electricity to attack enemies and even use it to charge batteries.

Denki’s Quirk has a big drawback: using too much power at once temporarily overloads his brain, turning him into a distracted and silly version of himself – which is a serious problem in a fight. Luckily, he’s now using tools to help him manage his power more effectively, and he’s learning to control his Quirk and stay within its limits.

Shinso’s Brainwashing Quirk Can Easily Be Undone

I’ve always wondered what it would be like to control others, and Hitoshi Shinso actually can. He has this incredible ability to brainwash people, making them do whatever he tells them. There’s a catch, though – he can only control someone if they actually respond to him first, if they verbally acknowledge what he says.

Although it’s still surprisingly effective on those who don’t know about it, people familiar with the power can avoid its effects by simply not responding. Plus, the power can be broken if someone or something interrupts the victim – even a light touch, like a tap on the shoulder, will do the trick.

Copy Allows for the Limited Use Of Borrowed Quirks

Neito Monoma from Class 1-B is a tricky opponent because he can copy most Quirks, as seen during the UA Sports Festival. However, his power isn’t without limitations. When he initially copies a Quirk, he can’t use it as skillfully as the person who originally has it.

Neito needs to physically touch someone to copy their Quirk, and he struggles with Quirks that build up power over time, like One For All or Eri’s Rewind. Although he can copy multiple Quirks, he can only use one at a time and has to switch between them. Fortunately, he’s recently improved his Quirk, allowing him to store up to four Quirks instead of just three.

Rewind is Extremely Risky for Eri To Use

Eri’s ability is incredibly versatile and could be used for amazing things or terrible ones. She can essentially erase anything, even a person’s entire life. This includes canceling out Quirks, even the most powerful ones – something the villain Overhaul attempted to take advantage of.

This ability has the potential to fix many issues, but it’s dangerous if the user, like Eri, lacks control. Eri is closely monitored to prevent her power from causing lasting harm. She’s recently used her Quirk – Rewind – in some challenging situations, and thankfully, it’s been successful so far.
