A game first released in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is supposedly being remade. While there’s no word yet on when we might see an announcement or when the game will come out, sources say the remake is currently in development and could be released relatively soon.
I was so excited to hear that Mafia 2 might finally be getting a full remake! I remember playing it back in 2010 when 2K Czech (who later became Warhorse Studios, the creators of Kingdom Come: Deliverance) released it as a sequel to the original Mafia. The first game got a fantastic remake in 2016, and while Mafia 2 only got a remaster, it sounds like Hangar 13 – the team behind the series now, taking over after Mafia III – is going all-in on a complete rebuild. Apparently, they’re working on this remake alongside a sequel to Mafia: The Old Country, which is planned for 2025. It’s great news for fans like me who loved the original!
Two New Mafia Games
A fan channel called Mafia Game Videos, which focuses entirely on the Mafia series, recently reported that developers at Hangar 13 have been recording weapon sounds specifically for Mafia 2. This suggests potential work on the game.
Given the strong sales of the Mafia remake and the lukewarm reception to the newest game, it makes good business sense for Hangar 13 and 2K to remake the second Mafia game. If they can maintain the same high quality as the first remake, it’s likely to be a hit.
Keep in mind that this information is currently unconfirmed. There hasn’t been an official announcement, and no other sources have verified it yet. (UPDATE: However, a reliable source, DetectiveSeeds, has now confirmed the report and hinted that an announcement could be coming soon.)
We’ve reached out to Hangar 13 and 2K for comment, but haven’t received a response, and we don’t anticipate one. However, we’ll update this story if that changes. If this information is correct, the remake’s announcement might happen sooner than expected, unless plans already exist to reveal it at a major gaming event this summer.
