A game originally released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2012 is now available on Nintendo Switch, marking its first appearance on a Nintendo system. Players with the newer Nintendo Switch 2 console can choose to play the Switch version now, or wait for a dedicated Switch 2 version expected in 2026. Regardless, this is exciting news for long-time Nintendo fans, as they previously couldn’t play this popular game.
Feral Interactive and IO Interactive have partnered to release Hitman: Absolution on Nintendo Switch through the eShop for $29.99. This price is relatively high for a game that’s 13 years old, as it’s currently available for $19.99 on other systems. While this version is an improved port—not a complete remake or remaster—it does include a new Contracts Mode, though it won’t be playable until 2026.
About the Game
If you haven’t played Hitman: Absolution before, it’s the fifth game in the Hitman series, which started way back in 2000. It’s a stealth action game, and it picks up the story after Hitman: Blood Money from 2006. Honestly, it wasn’t the best received. It did okay in terms of sales, but it only got a 79 on Metacritic, which is a little lower than other games in the series. Actually, the only Hitman game that scored lower was the very first one from 2000, with a 73. That first game didn’t get a sequel either; the series got a full reboot three years later with the 2016 Hitman game.
You once again play as Agent 47, who finds himself betrayed and on the run while also being tasked with protecting a young girl with a hidden and potentially dangerous secret. If you’re new to this game, it might not be worth seeking out now. But if you enjoyed it when it first came out, spending $30 to relive those memories could be worthwhile.
