Paradox Interactive is a leading developer and publisher of strategy games. Over the past ten years, they’ve created a diverse catalog, including popular titles like Europa Universalis, Age of Wonders, Imperator: Rome, and BattleTech. While they’ve made many successful games, Stellaris remains their most well-known. This 2016 space strategy game broke sales records when it launched and has continued to gain fans, especially after becoming available on PlayStation and Xbox in 2019. Recently, players on current-generation consoles haven’t received many updates, which has been disappointing, but that’s about to be fixed.
Paradox recently announced a major update for the console versions of Stellaris. While they didn’t initially share a release date, it was revealed alongside other new Stellaris content. This update introduces versions of the game specifically designed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, allowing the developers to fully utilize the power of these newer consoles.
What’s Coming In Stellaris‘ Current-Gen Update?
Good news! This update is free if you already own the previous version of the game, but only if you stick with the same platform. You can’t transfer your upgrade between Xbox One and PlayStation 5, and if you switch platforms, you’ll need to purchase the game again. Also, this free upgrade is only available for the digital version of Stellaris; physical copies will require a full purchase.
This update brings a lot of exciting new features! You can find a complete list of changes on our official website, but here are a few highlights: we’ve streamlined the leader system, added new auto-modding traits, and introduced machine aging – machines are no longer immortal. The biggest changes are to the leader system, with new Veterancy Subclasses and an updated Leader Capacity system. Be aware that exceeding the leader capacity will increase upkeep costs and reduce XP gain.
Paradox Interactive has released console versions of its games for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and also launched new downloadable content today. For Stellaris, Season 8’s Expansion Pass is now available for $41.99. This pass includes the “Rick the Cube Species” portrait pack and The Machine Age expansion, both available immediately.
You’ll also get the Cosmic Storms expansion next year and the Grand Archive story pack in 2026. Season 8 is now available on PC and players seem to be enjoying it, so we can expect Paradox to continue updating the console version with quality content.
Alongside the Season 8 pass, console players can also purchase Astral Planes, a story-driven expansion. While the PC version of this expansion hasn’t received very positive reviews – many players feel it doesn’t offer much content – it’s available for $19.99 if you’re interested.
Now is an excellent time to be a Stellaris player on consoles! Whether you’re already a fan or have been hoping for an updated version, there’s a lot to explore right now, with even more content coming soon.
