A new PC game released in 2024 is currently available for free on Steam, but this offer won’t last forever. Players seem to be enjoying it, with over 100 reviews giving it a 92% positive rating – Steam’s second-highest praise! It’s also confirmed to work well on the Steam Deck.
On October 24, 2024, just before Halloween, a solo developer named Sine Coda launched Paragnosia, a horror game where you monitor security cameras in your house to find and photograph ghostly events, with the goal of banishing them. It’s a relatively small and affordable game, costing only $3.99, but it seems to be getting positive attention.
Free Ahead of Sequel
This is developer Sine Coda’s second game release this year, following PathBlasters. Interestingly, despite releasing two games in 2024, they haven’t released anything new since. They are currently working on a sequel to Paragnosia, called Paragnosia: Museum, which had a free demo released last year and is expected to launch soon. Making the first game free is likely a way to promote the upcoming sequel.
“Incredible Horror Game”
This new free game on Steam has very positive reviews, and it likely deserves even higher praise. Many negative reviews focus on the inclusion of three AI-generated images used as background elements. While this bothers some players, it doesn’t reflect the game’s overall quality or gameplay.
One popular Steam review says this is a favorite indie game because it’s easy to pick up but surprisingly engaging. The reviewer particularly likes that the jump scares become less frightening with repeated play, and the game consistently offers something new to keep players hooked.
This horror game is fantastic! It’s praised for its clever, simple concept and the wide range of scary anomalies. The music and sound effects are also top-notch, creating a consistently tense and frightening experience. Highly recommended for fans of the horror genre!
User reviews don’t really say how long the game is, but most players seem to be finishing it in around 10-19 hours. A few players have reported much longer playthroughs, suggesting there’s some replay value. However, if you generally dislike games focused on anomalies, or aren’t a fan of horror, this free download probably won’t change your mind. Luckily, it’s free to try and see! And if you don’t enjoy it, there are plenty of other new free games available on Steam.
