2025’s Most Polarizing Horror Movie is Coming to Netflix

I’ve always been fascinated by horror. It’s a tricky genre – tons of beloved cult films come out of it, but when they’re first released in theaters, people are often really split on them, and box office results can be unpredictable. What’s interesting is that a lot of horror movies really find their audience once they hit streaming services. So, I’m really excited that Netflix is adding one of the most talked-about – and honestly, controversial – horror films from last year. It feels like it deserves another chance to connect with viewers.

The movie Him, arriving on Netflix April 19th, didn’t do well in theaters when it came out in 2025. Produced by Jordan Peele and directed by Justin Tipping, it tells the story of a talented football player determined to make it big. He quickly discovers the true cost of success, and the disturbing sacrifices he’ll have to make to achieve his dreams.

Him Failed to Impress in Theaters But Found Success on Streaming

While not its first time on streaming, the arrival of Him on Netflix could be another big success for the film. It was already a hit on Peacock last year. Considering Him only earned $27.8 million in theaters despite a $27 million production budget, and received mixed reviews due to prioritizing style over substance, a strong performance on Netflix would be a welcome turn for the movie.

The film Him feels intentionally focused on style over substance, which actually fits the story and its themes. It centers on rising football star Cam Cade (Tyriq Withers) and his opportunity to work with his idol, veteran quarterback Isiah White (Marlon Wayans). Cam’s pursuit of fame leads him down a dark path, and the movie explores how appearances can be deceiving. As the story intensifies and tackles complex ideas about masculinity and religion, Him proves to be more than just a typical horror film. It’s layered and thought-provoking, making it a worthwhile watch on Netflix. Plus, Marlon Wayans delivers one of his strongest performances to date, and it’s a performance you won’t want to miss.

What Else is Coming to Netflix In April?

Netflix isn’t just adding horror movies this month. Fans can also look forward to ‘Stranger Things: Tales from ’85’ on April 23rd, and Idris Elba’s thriller ‘Beast’ which arrived on April 7th. In fact, there’s a wide variety of new content across all kinds of genres coming to Netflix this month. You can find a full list of new additions here.
