2026 will be a huge year for Obsidian fans, as Avowed, Grounded 2, and The Outer Worlds 2 all receive major updates

Xbox’s acquisition of Obsidian is proving to be a fantastic investment. The studio has consistently released high-quality games, and 2025 has been particularly impressive with three genuinely excellent titles.

The year started strong with the release of Avowed, which I’m actually downloading right now! Then came Grounded 2, an early access game that successfully expands on what players loved about the first one.

Obsidian finished the year strong with The Outer Worlds 2, a sequel that improves upon the original game in almost every aspect – it’s larger in scope, more ambitious, and generally more polished.

I’ve been following Obsidian’s games, and it’s pretty clear they’ve got big plans for 2026, no matter which game you’re into. They’ve already given us a glimpse of what’s coming with updates for all their titles, so it’s worth checking out what fans can anticipate next year.

Avowed in 2026

Avowed debuted in February 2025 to positive reviews, earning a 4 out of 5 rating from Windows Central. This successful launch was a great beginning to the year for Obsidian, and players are now anticipating continued updates and support for the game.

The planned update for Avowed, initially scheduled for release later this year, has been delayed until 2026. It will now be a more substantial update, coinciding with the game’s anniversary.

Players can look forward to exciting new features when the update arrives, including New Game Plus, a Photo Mode, and a brand new weapon – the Quarterstaff. It’s a significant addition that gives players a great reason to jump back into the game.

I’m really unsure if I should complete the download now or wait for the update coming next year. Either way, there are some great things coming, and I’m especially looking forward to New Game Plus.

Grounded 2 in 2026

Even though it’s still being developed, Grounded 2 is already proving to be a fantastic sequel – bigger and more polished than the first game. The game has a solid base, and players are enjoying it so far.

Obsidian is heavily relying on player feedback to develop Grounded 2. They’re paying close attention to what players think and are already making changes based on that input. Specifically, players who enjoy building have expressed concerns, so Obsidian is speeding up improvements to the game’s building features.

Next year, park visitors can look forward to several improvements. A community garden will be added with the Winter Update in early spring. Following that, a moderate update is planned for spring, and a large update is scheduled for summer. We also have even more content in the works beyond that!

Obsidian has announced that they’re continuing to add to the game with new areas to discover, more vehicles, extra armor and gear, and even more secrets to find as development progresses.

The Outer Worlds 2 in 2026

The Outer Worlds 2 is Obsidian Entertainment’s largest game release this year, building on the foundation of the first game with a grander and more impressive experience. It represents the studio’s most ambitious undertaking for 2025, and early reactions suggest it’s a significant improvement.

Unlike Avowed and Grounded 2, Obsidian isn’t sharing many details about the future of The Outer Worlds 2. They’ve announced that two downloadable content packs are planned for release in 2026, and they’re also continuing to refine the base game.

Obsidian hasn’t revealed many details yet, but they’ve hinted at exciting future plans. They’re working on new features and improvements that users have been asking for, so there’s a lot more on the way – they’re just keeping it under wraps for now.

Exciting times ahead for Obsidian

As a researcher following Obsidian, I’m really impressed to see they’re still dedicated to supporting their games and making sure players are happy, even with three projects currently in development. It’s great to see that commitment hasn’t wavered.
