For over ten years, the John Wick movies have defined modern action cinema. But every year, new action films try to become the next big thing, and 2026 is shaping up to be the same. One movie, in particular, is getting a lot of attention as spring movie season begins, with some action fans already comparing it to The Raid – a hugely influential film. If you’re familiar with The Raid, you’ll want to check out the trailer below. If not, get ready to discover why everyone is talking about this new film.
Lionsgate just dropped a new trailer for The Furious, an action-packed martial arts film. It features incredible talent from Asia, including stars and stunt teams from The Raid, like Joe Taslim and Yayan Ruhian. The movie is directed by Kenji Tanigaki, a well-known martial arts filmmaker and choreographer who has also worked on Hollywood films like Blade II and Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins.
The film stars Mo Tse, known for his roles as a child actor in films like Jet Li’s The New Legend of Shaolin and My Father Is a Hero. He’s joined by a talented cast of martial arts performers including Jeeja Yanin, Brian Le, and Joey Iwanaga, along with a skilled team of stunt performers and fighters. Young actress Yang Enyu plays Wang Wei’s daughter, who finds herself in danger.
The Furious Is The Action Flick We All Need Right Now (Badly)
The trailer for The Furious shows a very intense story beginning with a disturbing situation: a father trying to rescue his daughter. This echoes the plot of Liam Neeson’s Taken, but The Furious seems to delve much deeper into the issue of child trafficking. Given the growing awareness of how widespread this problem is worldwide, this film could offer a satisfying, if simple, form of revenge. It’s easy to root for a father who’s determined to punish those responsible for such horrible crimes. While real life is complicated, movies can provide a clear and cathartic way to deal with difficult subjects.
Originally released internationally last fall and at a few US film festivals, The Furious quickly gained attention. Lionsgate bought the rights to distribute the movie worldwide in October, impressed by the positive reaction it was receiving. Currently, the film has a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 20 critic reviews.
According to Chris Bumbray of JoBlo, director Kenji Tanigaki excels in the action sequences, creating a visually exciting and intensely violent experience. The film’s energy is further boosted by a powerful soundtrack from Flying Lotus.

Though not as refined as top action films from South Korea, China, or Indonesia, ‘The Furious’ delivers pure excitement and thrilling action, according to Bumbray. It’s a movie meant to be enjoyed with a crowd, guaranteed to leave you smiling as one chaotic scene after another plays out. Bumbray highly recommends it, saying any action fan should definitely check it out.
The new movie, The Furious, is scheduled to hit US theaters in 2026. Join the conversation about it and other upcoming films on the ComicBook Forum!
