As the second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End wraps up, it’s unclear what the future holds for the immortal elf and her story in the anime world. While a third season hasn’t been officially announced, the show’s popularity suggests it likely won’t be the last we see of it. Beyond the manga and anime, the Frieren franchise is expanding in unexpected ways – it’s even coming to a real-life theme park, though a live-action show or movie hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Fans of the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End will be excited to know it’s coming to Universal Studios Japan for an extended period! Unlike typical anime events that last just a few weeks, Frieren will have a special “walkthrough attraction” running from May 30th, 2024, to January 11th, 2027. Called “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Story Walk — Echoes of Adventure,” the attraction will allow guests to relive key scenes from the series, featuring not only Frieren but also popular characters like Fern, Stark, Himmel, Heiter, and Eisen. While it’s not confirmed yet, given the success of One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen at Universal Studios, there’s a possibility this attraction could come to North America as well.
Frieren Comes to Life

Universal Studios Japan’s new attraction will transport you into the world of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End through a magical and immersive experience. You’ll walk through a recreation of the city of Äußerst, encountering Frieren, Fern, and Stark on a large screen. The attraction uses special effects to bring the story to life with moments that are heartwarming, funny, exciting, and emotionally powerful, taking you on a journey through cherished memories.
Frieren is confirmed to remain a feature at Universal Studios Japan, but the future of the manga and anime adaptations is less certain. A third season hasn’t been announced yet, and the manga’s creator, Kanehito Yamada, is currently taking a break for health reasons. There’s no word on when the series will continue, but fans are eagerly awaiting its return, which is expected to be a big event for manga enthusiasts.
Universal Studios has increasingly embraced anime in recent years, reflecting its growing popularity in North America. While Universal parks in the West have hosted anime-themed events celebrating series like One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen, Universal Studios Japan goes even further with dedicated anime areas. Over time, they’ve featured attractions and events based on popular titles including Attack on Titan, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, Chainsaw Man, and many more.
I’m so excited to see where Frieren goes next, and I’ve been chatting with other fans about it! If you’re curious what everyone’s thinking and want to share your own thoughts, come join the discussion with me over at the ComicBook Forum – it’s a really fun conversation!
