The Supergirl movie coming out in 2026 will reintroduce and showcase eight characters from the DC Universe, each with different abilities. The film will center on Milly Alcock’s portrayal of Kara Zor-el and her quest for revenge after her dog, Krypto, is put in danger by the villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills. During her journey, Kara will encounter both friends and foes, and will also uncover the truth about what happened to her home planet, Krypton.
The characters in Supergirl are particularly interesting because many of them – like Ruthye and Krem – are making their live-action debut. It’s highly likely these heroes and villains will play a role in the upcoming DCU movie, and it seems some won’t survive the conflict.
Craig Gillespie directs the upcoming movie Supergirl, featuring Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, and David Krumholtz. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
Every Supergirl Character Ranked by Power Level
9. Ruthye

Ruthye, played by Eve Ridley, is one of the less powerful characters in the story – a young alien driven by a desire to avenge her father’s death. Though she’s a skilled fighter with a talent for swordsmanship, she isn’t as strong or powerful as characters like Kara, Lobo, and Krem. However, Ruthye is fiercely determined to get justice, meaning she won’t be an easy opponent in Supergirl, especially with Kara’s help.
8. Zor-El

Zor-el was Supergirl’s father and a scientist from the planet Krypton. Like other Kryptonians, he would have gained superpowers from Earth’s yellow sun. However, he died when Krypton was destroyed, so his strength was no more than a typical human’s, which is why he ranks lowest on this list.
7. Alura In-Ze

Alura is Kara’s mother and, like Superman and Zor-El, she’s Kryptonian. This means that under a yellow sun, she would have the same level of power as her daughter, Kara.
Although the movie trailer briefly showed Alura alive, the comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow establishes that she is currently deceased. She was one of the earliest casualties of Kryptonite poisoning within the city of Kandor.
6. Drom Baxton

Drom Baxton is the second-highest ranking member of The Brigands, a pirate crew led by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.
We don’t know much about how Drom will appear in the DCU, other than the fact that Diarmaid Murtagh will play him. However, in the original Woman of Tomorrow comic, the Brigands are a dangerous and brutal group, so being a high-ranking member like Drom suggests he’s a formidable character.
5. Krem

Krem of the Yellow Hills is the primary villain in Supergirl. His actions set the movie’s story in motion when he defeats Krypto and Ruthye’s father. Although he isn’t overwhelmingly powerful, Krem is still a threat because of his advanced weapons and willingness to be cruel to his enemies. He also commands a large pirate army who will carry out his orders without question.
4. Krypto

Krypto, being from Krypton like Kara, is just as powerful. He has super strength, can fly, and is very hard to hurt. However, the Supergirl trailer showed he can be injured, meaning he’s not completely invulnerable like his owners.
The 2025 Superman movie demonstrated that Krypto, despite his power, can be defeated by overwhelming force, as both the Engineer and Ultraman were able to easily defeat him in battle.
3. Lobo

As a huge cinema fan, I’m really excited about Lobo, played by Jason Momoa. What’s fascinating is his character actually breaks a long-standing rule in DC films – a rule that’s been in place for 48 years! He’s not just a tough guy; he’s an incredibly powerful bounty hunter, an anti-hero who could genuinely go head-to-head with powerhouses like Superman and Supergirl. And it’s not just strength; he’s practically invulnerable, and on top of that, he heals incredibly fast, making him almost impossible to kill.
Okay, so get this – Supergirl and Lobo are going to have a showdown, and it’s a really interesting matchup. Now, without a yellow sun to power her up, Supergirl’s definitely at a disadvantage against Lobo. But, she’s not going down without a fight! Her training and experience give her a chance to outsmart him, and that’s why I personally have her ranked slightly higher than Lobo. It’s going to be a clever battle, not just a strength contest.
2. Supergirl

We haven’t seen Supergirl truly demonstrate her full power in the DC Universe yet, so it’s hard to say exactly how strong she is. However, because she’s Kryptonian, just like Superman, she has a very similar skillset and abilities.
I think she’s number two in the rankings, and it makes sense to me. Without the sun’s energy, she’s definitely weaker. Plus, Superman’s been fighting bad guys here on Earth for three years now – he just has a lot more experience dealing with different threats than she does.
1. Superman

Superman establishes that the main character, Superman himself, is the strongest being with superpowers in the DC Universe, and after watching the movie, that ranking feels accurate.
Often considered the standard for Kryptonian strength, Kal-el is incredibly powerful when exposed to a yellow sun. Currently, within the DC Universe, his only known weakness is Kryptonite.
