ININ Games unveiled “Apidya’s Special Edition”, a fresh take on the classic side-scrolling shooter game “Apidya” from 1992, which was initially released for Amiga. This upgraded version will debut for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in the year 2026.
Speaking in a recent press statement, Peter Thierolf, the mastermind behind Apidya, expressed surprise at the prospect of returning to this project after such a long time. Yet, with advanced technology, an aligned team, and the unwavering enthusiasm of our community, he believes we can now bring to life the vision for Apidya that we have cherished all these years.
Here is an overview of the game, via ININ Games:
About
Apidya’ Special” is a genuine, 24-bit pixel reimagining – absolutely no 3D designs or AI enhancement; instead, meticulously crafted pixels and an abundance of passion are used.
Created by the initial group, along with a dedicated fan of Apidya who transitioned into development, the “Apidya Special” edition draws from a once-abandoned 90’s console adaptation. It merges original resources with fresh pixel art, extra authentic sound effects, and remixed music. The legendary composer Chris Hulsbeck provides an exclusive, entirely reworked soundtrack that has never been unveiled before.
Players can enjoy the “Apidya’ Special” in authentic widescreen format, complete with updated parallax effects, or opt for the traditional Amiga 4:3 mode that accurately replicates the gameplay, graphics, and sound of its 1992 release. For an enhanced retro experience, optional CRT effects can be enabled to simulate a vintage display, featuring shadow mask, scan lines, and phosphor bloom.
As a timeless favorite among European retro gaming enthusiasts for more than 30 years, the game titled “Apidya’ Special” is set to introduce its bug-themed excitement to a fresh audience. Simultaneously, this new edition promises to deliver the most authentic and feature-rich experience yet, catering not only to novices but also satisfying loyal fans with an upgraded version.
