24 Times the Kardashian-Jenners Clapped Back at Critics

The art of the clapback can’t be taught—it simply comes naturally to the Kardashian-Jenners

I’ve been a fan for years, and honestly, some of the things this family has said – their witty comebacks and fast responses – have become iconic! They’re just so memorable that they’ve become part of our shared cultural language, and everyone knows them. It’s amazing to see something so spontaneous become so well-known.

A famous moment happened when Kim Kardashian was upset about losing a diamond earring in the ocean, and Kourtney Kardashian responded by saying, “Kim, people are dying.”

However, they don’t always focus their anger inward. Having spent years in the spotlight, these reality stars have become skilled at responding to public criticism with equally strong reactions of their own.

I really admired how Kim handled the backlash from her legal show, All’s Fair. Instead of getting defensive, she actually embraced the criticism with humor – it was a really smart move, and I thought it showed a lot of confidence.

Kim Kardashian posted photos with her “All’s Fair” costars Naomi Watts, Sarah Paulson, and Niecy Nash, plus the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy, on Instagram on November 6th. She playfully asked, “Have you watched the most critically acclaimed show of the year?!?!?” The show is now streaming on Hulu and Disney+.

Kim’s oldest child, 12-year-old North West (from her marriage with Kanye West), also seems to have developed a similar ability to brush off criticism with humor.

When people online criticized North’s finger piercing, she responded perfectly on TikTok.

North West starred in a video posted to an account she shares with her mom, Kim Kardashian, lip-syncing to a clip that jokingly asks, “Why are you crying? How old are you? Just pull it together.”

To clear up any misunderstanding, North explained in the caption of her December 9th post that it was a response to people upset about her getting a finger piercing.

As for Khloe Kardashian? In recent years, she’s found it easier to just block out the noise.

Honestly, I’ve learned to just tune out the negativity. I’ve realized that when people try to bring others down online – when they’re essentially cyberbullying – it says way more about their own insecurities than it does about the person they’re attacking. It’s a tough lesson, but protecting my energy means not engaging with that kind of behavior.

She added, “It’s about them, not you.”

However, when you feel the urge to respond to criticism, Kim offers some helpful advice.

She advised in 2016 to simply do what feels right, even if that means speaking your mind, no matter how blunt.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve definitely seen my fair share of public scrutiny, and the Kardashian-Jenners are no different. Over the years, they’ve consistently faced negativity, but they’ve also become incredibly skilled at responding. Let’s take a look at some of their most iconic comebacks to those who try to bring them down.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner dressed as characters from The Lizzie McGuire Movie for Halloween in October 2024, but some fans didn’t enjoy their performance of the film’s famous song, “What Dreams Are Made Of,” describing it as awkward.

But Kylie was ready with the perfect clapback: “U obvi haven’t seen the movie.”

In October 2024, a fan commented on an Instagram photo of Kourtney, pointing out that she looked remarkably like North West.

The Lemme founder brilliantly responded, “We may be related.”

After Kim expressed concern that Khloe’s breasts might look disproportionately large if she got a breast augmentation, Khloe responded with a pointed remark towards her sister.

She scoffed, saying on a June 2024 episode of The Kardashians, ‘Seriously? People who go door-to-door are telling me what’s too much?’

In April 2024, some fans claimed Kim Kardashian purposely shared a photo of her sister Kourtney that they considered unflattering. Kourtney, who founded Poosh, quickly dismissed any suggestion of a problem with the picture.

Kourtney shared on Instagram how much she loved a photo of herself and her sisters enjoying a fun trip with their kids, saying it created memories that would last a lifetime.

Okay, seriously, can we talk about how amazing Khloé is? Someone actually questioned why she threw a birthday party for Tristan’s little brother, Amari, back in 2023! Like, how dare they? She totally shut them down with this perfect response – basically saying, ‘What even is your reasoning for commenting on this?!’ It’s just…iconic. She doesn’t need to explain herself to anyone, and I’m so here for her standing up for herself!

Kourtney took a moment to tell followers exactly how she deals with negativity—blocking them.

As part of my self-care routine, I always try to center myself after a good Pilates session. Recently, I was enjoying a cup of tea and taking the time to unfollow any social media accounts that weren’t bringing positive energy into my life. It’s all about creating a peaceful space and saying ‘goodbye’ to negativity – prioritizing those positive vibes is key for me!

I was so relieved to see the fashion icon address all the rumors flying around last August! She posted this amazing message on Twitter, basically calling everyone out for making things up. She said, and I totally agree, that people seem to prefer a dramatic story over the actual truth. It’s like the real story isn’t exciting enough for some, so they just invent something else! It was so refreshing to hear her speak up and set the record straight.

She explained that the situation felt incredibly old and frustrating, consistently involving people fabricating stories about her and then harassing her over those false claims. She emphasized this happens without anyone bothering to find out the truth, calling it bizarre and unsettling behavior.

In August 2021, the TV personality responded to online criticism with a playful but pointed message on social media. She warned her followers to “Be careful outside,” adding, “It’s raining shady people everywhere!”

The Good American founder shut down an Instagram critic, who wrote, “If insecurity was a person.”

The reality TV star told her, “You need to look at yourself.” She explained that people who put others down are usually insecure, and wished her well, saying, “I’m sending you love, health, and happiness. I’m sorry you’re going through a hard time.”

KoKo faced criticism again after someone commented “money spent well” on her recent, glamorous photos on Instagram.

When faced with negativity, Khloe responds with humor, playfully acknowledging the drama with laughing emojis and the comment, “the shade of it all.”

Khloe Kardashian is known for changing up her style. Recently, she’s updated her look by switching from long hair to a shorter cut and from blonde to brown.

Khloe shared a photo of her new hairstyle on Instagram, but one person commented that they didn’t even recognize her, asking, “Who is that on the right?”

“your new step mother,” Khloe hilariously responded. “Be nice or get grounded.”

A family shared a photo from their lake trip with the caption “lake ya,” but received a comment questioning why they didn’t spend their resources helping others instead. It highlights how even simple, joyful moments can sometimes attract criticism focused on charitable giving.

Kourtney responded with kindness and a willingness to do more. She asked for suggestions on how she could be more helpful, and encouraged everyone to support each other and find ways to contribute. She believes we all have a responsibility to help one another as fellow humans.

Loving her body.

When Kourtney shared a relaxed photo of herself reading while wearing a swimsuit, people began to wonder if she was expecting another baby. She quickly clarified that she is not pregnant.

Kourtney explained that she’s comfortable with her body, even if she’s gained a little weight. She embraces her post-pregnancy shape, having given birth to three children.

In May 2020, the founder of Good American used Twitter to address rumors that she and Tristan Thompson were expecting another child.

Khloe recently tweeted that she’s been avoiding social media because of the cruel and hurtful comments people make online. She expressed her disgust at what she’s seeing and added, “People act like they know everything about me, even my personal health. It’s sickening.”

Khloe was upset, saying, “You’re spreading awful things about me based on a rumor! I’ve seen so many mean stories and tweets about this false claim. Even if it were true, it’s my personal life, and it’s not up to you.”

In April 2020, the supermodel responded to criticism on Twitter about her past relationships with NBA players like Blake Griffin and Devin Booker. Some users had accused the players of treating her like a shared conquest.

The reality star said it feels like people are questioning her agency over her own body, stating, ‘They act like I don’t decide where this goes.’

When people online nicknamed Kylie and her friends the “Plastic Rangers,” she playfully responded, “and we love recycling.”

When Kourtney shared photos and videos of her family’s Easter celebration in 2020, some people tried to criticize it, but their attempts weren’t successful.

Someone commented, “Get your son a haircut!” She responded by saying her son has the most beautiful hair in the world and dismissed any criticism.

Someone commented that Kourtney seemed to get a new dog frequently, but she quickly clarified that they’ve had their dog, Honey, for years, repeating the name for emphasis.

In February 2019, Khloe Kardashian made her first public appearance after news broke of Tristan Thompson’s infidelity with Jordyn Woods. Kim Kardashian was upset by the negative comments Khloe received on social media following the event.

Someone on Twitter questioned whether you’d still go out in public the day after finding out your partner cheated on you, posting the question alongside a video of Khloe at an event.

Kim responded to the tweet, saying, “Would you rather she also lose her income? This mom has to work too! This was a job she scheduled a long time ago, and she’s definitely not relying on anyone to pay her bills or support her daughter.” She finished with a strong emphasis, “That’s final!”

In 2018, while on vacation in Italy with her children, Kourtney shared a photo of herself on a yacht and playfully asked her followers what they’d been up to, mentioning she’d just eaten a whole basket of focaccia.

When an Instagram follower asked where her children were, Kourtney explained that her son was taking the picture, and her other two kids were sitting at a nearby table. She also thanked the follower for their concern.

In 2016, Kim responded to actress Chloë Grace Moretz after Moretz criticized Kim’s nude selfie. Kim tweeted, “Let’s all welcome @ChloeGMoretz to Twitter, since nobody seems to know who she is.” She also added, “Your Nylon cover is cute though.”

Kim also clapped back at Bette Midler and Piers Morgan for their critical comments about her photo.

In January 2019, an egg photo became more popular on Instagram than any of Kylie Jenner’s posts. Jenner responded by sharing a meme on social media that joked about the egg’s popularity, along with a video of her cracking an egg.

The beauty mogul captioned the post, “Take that little egg.”

Khloe Kardashian explained in a 2018 interview with Zanna Roberts Rassi of TopMob News that she was criticized for attending a charity event without her daughter, True Thompson. She said she was being attacked online for being out on a Sunday while trying to raise money for cancer research, and responded by saying True was with her father and questioning what people wanted her to do.

Kylie Jenner responded to Alex Rodriguez’s story about their 2019 Met Gala conversation. Rodriguez claimed they talked about Instagram, her lipstick, and her wealth, but Kylie denied it, tweeting, “That’s not true. We only talked about Game of Thrones.”

I remember when Kendall posted that picture back in 2018 – she was sitting at a rooftop table in lingerie, and it caused a bit of a stir. People started pointing out that the billboard behind her, featuring Kacey Musgraves, looked strangely blurred. It was definitely a talking point online at the time!

After people started speculating about a possible issue, Kendall quickly defended herself, saying she hadn’t altered the photo and is a huge fan of Kacey Musgraves. She enthusiastically listed some of Musgraves’ songs – “Space Cowboy,” “I Miss You,” and “Keep It To Yourself,” along with the lyric “Follow Your Arrow” – and insisted anyone who knows her will vouch for how much she loves her music.
