It’s already a treat when fantasy shows actually finish their stories, but it’s even rarer to get a truly satisfying ending. And even when a show does reach its planned conclusion, it doesn’t always stick the landing. Popular examples like Game of Thrones and Supernatural prove that even beloved series can falter at the very end.
Luckily, some fantasy shows deliver incredibly satisfying finales, solidifying their place among the best in the genre. Whether it’s a funny take on the afterlife that ends on a high note, or an animated series consistently praised for its quality, these shows all have truly perfect conclusions.
3) The Good Place
I absolutely loved watching The Good Place. It was hilarious like a typical sitcom, but also had this amazing fantasy story about the afterlife, and it constantly kept me guessing! While the final season wasn’t flawless, it wasn’t the twists that mattered most. It was how deeply I felt the ending – it’s honestly one of the best finales I’ve ever seen. The episode, “Whenever You’re Ready,” really delivered on everything the characters had been through, showing how much they’d grown, and I definitely cried! It all just fit thematically, and the show didn’t leave any questions unanswered about where everyone ended up or what the whole story meant.
2) Arcane
Arcane excels at crafting a poignant and impactful finale. While our heroes succeed in defeating Ambessa and the Noxian forces, and Piltover and Zaun begin to find common ground, victory comes at a cost. The final battle is deeply satisfying, bringing the characters together in meaningful ways, but it’s also heartbreaking – Vi experiences the loss of her sister all over again, and both Viktor and Jayce meet tragic ends. The conclusion feels realistic in its losses and consistently evokes strong emotions. Despite the sadness, the ending isn’t entirely without hope, and a subtle clue suggests Jinx might still be alive, potentially opening doors for future stories. The series masterfully balances thrilling action with a solid foundation for expansion, leaving viewers eager for more – which is ideal, given Netflix’s plans to build upon the world of Arcane.
1) Avatar: The Last Airbender
Okay, so as a huge animation fan, let me tell you, Avatar: The Last Airbender is a show that just keeps building on itself. The finale? Seriously amazing. The pacing is spot-on, there’s tons of action as the fight against the Fire Nation ramps up, but what really got to me was how much the ending respected the characters and everything they’d been through. Zuko’s story, Aang grappling with some tough choices… it all felt so earned and satisfying. They even threw in fun stuff like ‘The Ember Island Players’ that showed they remembered the fans. But honestly, the biggest thing is that the ending is hopeful. It leaves you feeling like a better world is possible, and that’s why I keep coming back to rewatch it – it’s just an incredible series.
