3 Romantasy Books From 2025 That Deserve a Movie or TV Adaptation

Romantasy continues to be incredibly popular as we move further into the 2020s, which isn’t surprising given the growing interest in both fantasy and romance novels. 2025 saw a wave of exciting new romantasy books, and several are already being adapted for the screen. Notably, Rebecca Yarros’s Onyx Storm and SenLinYu’s Alchemised have both been optioned for film and television. Onyx Storm is being developed into a TV show by Amazon (currently three seasons in), and Legendary paid a significant seven-figure sum for the movie rights to Alchemised (according to The Hollywood Reporter).

Several other popular romantasy novels scheduled for release in 2025 are also being adapted into movies or TV shows. These include Devney Perry’s Shield of Sparrows and Lauren Roberts’ Powerless series, which concluded with Fearless in 2025. If these adaptations are successful, studios and streaming services might invest more heavily in the romantasy genre. There are many other romantasy books fans are eager to see adapted, including several published just last year that would be a natural fit given their stories and how well they’ve been received.

3) The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig

Rachel Gillig’s gothic fantasy novels are incredibly visual and would translate beautifully to the screen, particularly her 2025 release, The Knight and the Moth. This book has all the elements of a great adaptation: a captivating central mystery, a heroine struggling with her beliefs, and themes that resonate today. The story is well-paced with compelling characters, and it strikes a perfect balance between drama, action, and humor. It’s easy to picture the scenes – and even the witty gargoyle – coming to life in a live-action series or film.

2) Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross

Rebecca Ross’s Wild Reverence, the follow-up to her Divine Rivals duology (which Paramount Pictures is adapting, according to Deadline), is also a strong contender for a screen adaptation. While its chances increase if the Divine Rivals films do well, Wild Reverence could be adapted successfully on its own. In fact, with its rich mythology and exciting battles, it might be better suited for the screen than the earlier books. The story’s mature themes and romantic elements are particularly appealing to fans of shows like Outlander and Fourth Wing, filling a niche that many fantasy series miss. Plus, the book’s beautifully detailed world, centered around characters Matilda and Vincent, offers a fantastic setting for a visual adaptation.

1) Immortal Consequences by I.V. Marie

I.V. Marie’s 2025 novel, Immortal Consequences, didn’t get much attention at the time, but it was a standout in the young adult romantasy genre—and it would make a great TV show or movie. The story takes place at a boarding school in purgatory, which is a fantastic concept for a visual adaptation. Six students compete in dangerous trials to avoid fading into oblivion, losing all memory of their past lives. However, only one can win the Decennial competition and move on, creating intense drama as friendships and romantic feelings get in the way. With its mystery, exciting challenges, memorable characters, and original setting, Immortal Consequences is a perfect candidate for adaptation, and hopefully Hollywood will take notice.
