Science fiction is always a favorite among readers, but it’s become even more popular recently, largely thanks to the book series Dungeon Crawler Carl. Created by Matt Dinniman, this LitRPG series isn’t just a bestseller – it’s becoming a major part of pop culture, with a TV show, several games, and more books planned (the next one comes out in May!). If you’ve already read all the available books and are eager for more, we’ve got some recommendations to keep you entertained while you wait to find out what happens next with Carl and Princess Donut.
If you enjoyed Dungeon Crawler Carl, here are three books or series we think you’ll love. While not all of them are strictly LitRPG, they all offer exciting adventures, satisfying progression systems, and a fun experience – especially the first one on the list!
3) We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor

If you enjoyed the AI character Carl from Dungeon Crawler Carl, you’ll definitely want to read We Are Legion (We Are Bob), the first book in the Bobiverse series. Bob Johansson, a successful entrepreneur, just sold his company for a fortune and was looking forward to retirement when he unexpectedly died. Luckily, he’d arranged to have his body preserved. The catch? He’s revived centuries later, not as a person, but as a digital consciousness uploaded into a probe and sent into space to search for a new home for humanity.
This book is a fun, quick read packed with action, humor, and a surprising mix of elements – from artificial intelligence and space travel to political intrigue and even an AI cat created by the main character! As part of a series, there’s a lot more to enjoy if you like it.
2) Zombie Bake-Off by Stephen Graham Jones

Lubbock, Texas hosts Recipe Days, a popular yearly baking competition where the winner gets a shot at appearing on a national cooking show. This year, things take a wild turn when pro wrestlers unexpectedly show up, followed by zombies! Someone accidentally gives the wrestlers donuts laced with the infection, and then locks down the convention center. Now, a group of home bakers – grandmothers, moms, and aspiring chefs – must band together to survive the zombie outbreak and rescue anyone they can.
Okay, the idea for Zombie Bake-Off sounds totally bonkers, I admit! But honestly, it’s a really funny and surprisingly sweet story. It’s a quick read too, and if you’re into zombies, wrestling, and rooting for the underdog, you’ll absolutely love it.
1) He Who Fights With Monsters by Shirtaloon

If you enjoyed Dungeon Crawler Carl, He Who Fights With Monsters is a great next read. It follows Jason Asan, an average office worker whose life is completely upended when he finds himself naked in a bizarre new world. He quickly discovers he’s been transported to another dimension and possesses magical abilities—but they’re all dark and dangerous. Now, Jason must navigate a world filled with strange threats, from hamsters to cannibalistic cults, all while trying to gain levels and become a more heroic character.
Similar to Dungeon Crawler Carl, He Who Fights With Monsters began as an online story and offers a humorous take on friendship and survival in bizarre situations. It’s the first book in a series, so it’s a great read after you finish Dungeon Crawler Carl – you might even like it just as much!
