Three classic Super Nintendo games are coming back on January 29, 2026, and will only be available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop. While there aren’t currently plans for native versions on the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2, they will work on the new system through backward compatibility. For now, the release is confirmed only for Japan, but it will likely be available in other regions eventually, though not by January 29th. If these games don’t get a Western release, players can still access them by creating a Japanese eShop account.
Three classic Dokapon games are being re-released together in a single collection. These include Dokapon 3-2-1: Arashi o Yobu Yuujou, Kessen! Dokapon Oukoku IV: Densetsu no Yuusha Tachi, and Dokapon Gaiden: Honoo no Audition. All three games originally came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) – the first in 1994, the second in 1993, and the last in 1995.
More Information
The original Dokapon trilogy is coming to the Nintendo Switch with a few updates to bring the games up to date. According to the developer, Sting, players can expect features like a Double Speed Mode and a Manual Mode. It’s currently unknown if the games will receive any visual enhancements or changes to the core gameplay. Based on the lack of a new trailer, it seems these releases will be the classic games with some added features – not a complete remake or remaster, but an improved version of the originals.

Fans of classic Super Nintendo games haven’t seen much new content lately. Nintendo recently gave all SNES games on the Nintendo Switch Online service a significant boost, but despite a wave of retro game re-releases, remasters, and remakes, there haven’t been many SNES titles among them. This announcement also comes with the news that a beloved NES game will be making a comeback next year.
