On Hulu, there’s an abundance of movies to stream, making it possible to overlook some real gems worth watching.
Watch With Us has curated a brief list of three underrated Hulu movies to watch as June winds down.
Fans of comedy are bound to appreciate “The Bronze“, starring a former cast member from “The Big Bang Theory“. On the other hand, those who prefer a more serious tone will find appeal in “Cyrus” with the talented “Marisa Tomei” in the lead.
As a final suggestion, don’t miss the less-discussed 2024 thriller titled “Skincare“, featuring Elizabeth Banks and Lewis Pullman from “Thunderbolts” in a nail-biting tale centered around cosmetics. (Believe it or not!)
‘The Bronze’ (2016)
Have you ever pondered about the lives of Olympic athletes after they retire from competition? The unfortunate ones may find themselves in situations similar to Hope Ann Gregory (Melissa Rauch), who relies on her dwindling fame in her hometown and resorts to stealing mail deliveries to make ends meet. When her former coach passes away, she learns he left her a half million dollars, but only if she can successfully train his most promising pupil for the upcoming Olympics. Hope’s character has taken a turn for the worse, but could she tap into the competitive spirit of her past to claim the money—and possibly regain her standing?
The film ‘The Bronze’ follows the vein of edgy R-rated comedies such as ‘Bad Santa’, ‘Bad Teacher’, and ‘Bad Words’. These movies feature unapologetically flawed characters that aren’t particularly likable. The humor in this raunchy comedy is largely due to Melissa Rauch, who presents a grittier, more hilarious persona compared to her roles in ‘The Big Bang Theory’. Despite Hope being rather despicable, Rauch possesses enough charisma to make you root for her success.

‘Cyrus’ (2010)
In contrast to many romantic comedies that feature love triangles, the film “Cryus” presents an unusual scenario: a man (John C. Reilly as John), a woman he adores (Marisa Tomei as Molly), and her protective grown son Cyrus (Jonah Hill). Seven years have passed since John’s divorce, but when he encounters Molly, their immediate bond leaves him smitten. Unfortunately, this bond doesn’t sit well with Molly’s 21-year-old son Cyrus, who is determined to spoil their relationship at any cost, even if it means causing pain to others in order to drive John away from his mother permanently.
Cyrus’ storyline could bring on a barrage of laughter similar to the movie “Monster-in-Law” starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, but it has a more nuanced and dramatic tone. The film maintains a relatively serious demeanor, with each character displaying authentic reasons for their actions. Reilly, Tomei, and Hill deliver exceptional performances as individuals yearning for companionship, finding solace in shared humor. The movie offers a comfortably low-key experience, and if you find that not much seems to transpire within its 91 minutes, remember, that’s often how real life unfolds.

‘Skincare’ (2024)
In an innovative twist, the film titled “Skincare” might be likened to the first thriller in its genre – a suspenseful tale that revolves around makeup essentials like cold cream and eyeliner. While there’s a touch of humor in this description, the unique theme of the movie sets it apart from other productions.
As a dedicated follower, I find myself in the shoes of Hope Goldman, a thriving proprietor of a skincare clinic in Los Angeles. A pesky aesthetician, Angel, has been stealing my clients, causing me considerable distress. Matters escalate when my tires are slashed and I sense an unsettling presence lurking around me. In a bid to regain control over my life, I decide to bring on board a life coach, Jordan, hoping he can help me navigate through this ordeal. However, his intervention only seems to complicate things further. Will I be able to unmask the culprit behind these harassments before my life spirals out of control entirely?
The movie “Skincare” deviates from typical thriller conventions by emphasizing psychological tension over physical violence. It delves deeply into the character of Hope, as she struggles with ethical dilemmas and her subsequent moral decay. Banks skillfully portrays Hope’s impeccable exterior gradually giving way, and the scenes between Hope and Pullman carry a palpable sexual tension that leaves you yearning for more intense exploration. Nevertheless, “Skincare” is engaging, concluding with a realistic finale that neatly ties up loose ends.
