In 2015, Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan successfully rebooted the Rocky series with Creed. The film followed Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed, as he rose through the ranks of the boxing world, training alongside the legendary Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). Creed was a major hit, leading to two sequels and a complete trilogy centered on Adonis’s story.
In 2023, the third Creed movie was released, marking a significant departure from the Rocky films as Sylvester Stallone did not return. Michael B. Jordan both directed and starred in Creed III, which was critically acclaimed and earned $276 million worldwide – the highest box office total for any film in the Creed series.
As expected, Amazon, MGM, and Jordan have hinted at future projects, like a TV series and Creed 4. However, many people may not realize that a fourth Creed movie actually premiered some time ago.
A Creed Anime Short-Film Also Came Out In 2023

Beyond releasing Creed III in 2023, the Creed series ventured into anime with a short film called Creed: Shinjidai. This film follows three young boxers on a fantastical journey as they team up to improve their skills. Michael B. Jordan, a big anime enthusiast, collaborated with Amazon MGM and the creators of Megalobox to bring this project to life.
Originally announced in May 2023, Creed: Shinjidai was created as a bonus anime for Japanese audiences who saw Creed 3 in theaters. Michael B. Jordan shared the news on Instagram, explaining it was a surprise gift designed to play after the movie.
Amazon MGM Studios then revealed the film would also have a brief run in US cinemas, showing before screenings of Bottoms at the Alamo Drafthouse in Los Angeles for just one week.
I was really excited to see the Creed anime, but it was tough! For a while, the only way to watch it was if you were in Japan or at a single location in Los Angeles. Thankfully, everyone expected it wouldn’t stay that way for long, and we were hoping it would eventually be available to stream or come out with the Creed 3 Blu-ray.
It’s Impossible To Watch Creed: Shinjidai
Surprisingly, that wasn’t what happened. Creed: Shinjidai hasn’t been widely released since its initial showing, and it’s difficult to find any information about it online. There are virtually no images or detailed descriptions available about this interplanetary boxing story.
It’s unusual that Creed: Shinjidai seems to be fading from view, especially since Jordan announced it with a release in Japan. Amazon even showed it in a few US theaters, which brought it to more people’s attention. It looked like the studio and Michael B. Jordan were ready to promote it and wanted fans to see it.
The anime-style scenes in Creed 3 are still the best example of anime influencing the Creed movies. Whether the short film will ever be officially released or remain unavailable is currently unknown.
