The hit manga series Oshi no Ko by Aka Akasaka was adapted into an anime in 2023, with a second season following quickly in 2024. While the manga finished with a divisive ending, the anime continues the story. It currently focuses on Ruby Hoshino navigating the entertainment industry through a web show she stars in alongside Aqua. The story also delves into Aqua uncovering secrets about his sister and the ongoing mystery surrounding their father. The third season of the anime premiered in January 2026 and has quickly become a major hit, prompting Crunchyroll to add the first season to its streaming platform.
Crunchyroll’s official website confirmed that the second season will be available this spring. The platform currently streams the third season, with new episodes released weekly. While Crunchyroll is the leading anime streaming service, it doesn’t have every anime title. For example, Oshi no Ko previously streamed exclusively on Hulu before becoming available on Crunchyroll. Seven episodes of the third season have been released so far, with the full season consisting of 11 episodes and concluding on March 25, 2026.
What Is Oshi no Ko About?

While appearing to be a typical, bubbly pop idol show, this series actually tackles surprisingly mature and dark themes, making it more suited for older audiences. It delves into the harsh realities of the entertainment world, exploring issues like obsessive fans, the pressures of idol life, feelings of inadequacy, and the desire for revenge. The story begins when a 16-year-old member of the popular group B Komachi unexpectedly announces she’s taking a break, worrying her fans.
Goro Amemiya was a devoted fan who supported her from afar, completely surprised when she unexpectedly visited him in the hospital while pregnant with twins. They happily raised their children, Aqua and Ruby, for a time, but their lives were tragically cut short when a mysterious man killed their mother. Now orphans, Aqua and Ruby must face the difficulties of growing up in the demanding world of entertainment.
Season three has finished covering the ‘Mainstay Arc,’ where Ruby appears on a web show and Aqua learns a secret about his sister. The anime is now showing the ‘Scandal Arc,’ which introduces an important new character. It’s expected that the anime will cover some of the events from the ‘Movie Arc’ before the season ends, though the story might continue into a fourth season. You can read all the manga chapters on the official Manga Plus app, and purchase physical and digital copies of the volumes through Yen Press’ website.
