3 Years Later, One Piece Finally Confirms the Aftermath of Its Biggest Arc

Over nearly three decades, One Piece has delivered numerous significant story arcs that have shaped the series. The arcs have become increasingly powerful and detailed since the time skip. Although the most recent two arcs in the final saga were substantial, the longest arc in One Piece actually came right before it. The Wano arc, which ran for 149 chapters, began in July 2018 and concluded over three years ago in August 2022.

This story arc was a turning point for the Straw Hats, launching them into the major conflicts of the series before the final act. It also revealed the immense potential of Monkey D. Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation and hinted at his larger destiny. While the arc expanded the world of One Piece with the interesting region of Wano Country, the aftermath of Kaido and Orochi’s defeat felt a little unclear, especially considering the young age (eight years old) of Momonosuke, who was now in charge as Shogun. Fortunately, Eiichiro Oda recently shared updates about Wano Country’s current situation in the latest One Piece SBS.

SBS 113

The current state of government of Wano under Momonosuke’s rule

I just saw a translation of the latest One Piece SBS (the question and answer section) posted by Pewpiece on X. Someone asked about how Wano Country is doing now that Kaido’s been defeated – specifically, if the Akazaya Nine (the Red Scabbards) are in charge of rebuilding and if Kinemon’s leading the effort. According to Eiichiro Oda, it’s actually Momonosuke who’s running things, with the Red Scabbards helping him out since he’s still only eight years old, even though he looks older. Oda also said they’ve gotten rid of all the worst parts of Wano, like Okobore Town, the old prisoner mines, Onigashima, and the factories that were causing problems.

Oda adds that much of this has already been hinted at in the series’ cover pages. They confirm the Red Scabbards are now Daimyos scattered throughout Wano Country. Specifically, Kinemon is the top leader in the Flower Capital, while Nekomamushi runs the underworld there. With Nekomamushi in the Flower Capital and Inuarashi in Kuri, it seems the entire Mink Tribe has moved to Wano.

Recent updates show Yamato is still traveling around. This means it might take a while before they officially join the Straw Hat crew. While it’s possible Yamato won’t join at all – with Loki also being a potential crew member – it seems likely that at least one of them will eventually become part of the team. Now that Wano Country is stable, fans are hoping to see Yamato leave and finally join the Straw Hats, as many have predicted.
