Over its 30-year history, Power Rangers has delivered plenty of surprises, including huge battles, welcome returns of characters, and unexpected team-ups. But one event from 31 years ago really stood out – it completely caught fans off guard, and the story behind why it happened is just as fascinating as the event itself.
As a lifelong Power Rangers fan, I still remember when “The Wedding” arc aired 31 years ago – it was episodes 41 through 43, and it was wild! It brought Rita Repulsa back after Zedd kicked her to the curb. She actually used a love potion on Zedd during a special recharge he was doing, and they ended up getting married! It’s definitely a storyline fans either love or hate, but it all happened because the Power Rangers movie was being filmed at the same time and messed up their usual schedule. It was a crazy time to be a fan!
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie Directly Caused The Off The Wall Storyline

A key event during the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers run was the 1995 movie release. Making the film at the same time as the TV show created a lot of extra work for the production team. This period also presented another significant challenge for the show’s creators.
The studio and franchise heavily prioritized the movie, but the show also had existing commitments to the network. Since the same actors starred in both projects, production became complicated. As lead writer and producer Tony Oliver explained, they had to work around the actors’ movie schedule, meaning those not involved in the film were kept busy filming scenes for the show.
Because of these pre-planned story outlines, episodes often featured adventures centered around the villains, like the palace-based chaos we see in one example. While the Rangers do appear in this three-part story, it mostly focuses on the villains and other characters who support the plot.
The episodes weren’t always well-made, and the storytelling felt a bit messy. However, the wedding storyline has surprisingly become one of the most talked-about parts of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series – people either love it or hate it! It also brought back Rita Repulsa, who always makes the show better when she’s involved.
