Seriously, The Witcher 3 is one of the greatest action RPGs I’ve ever played. It really set the bar for the whole genre, and honestly, I still find myself wanting to jump back in just to replay it. With The Witcher 4 coming soon, it’s got me thinking about all my adventures with Geralt of Rivia all over again!

Although The Witcher 3 is an amazing game and a standout in the action RPG genre, it’s not the only great one available. The world of action RPGs is huge, encompassing titles from FromSoftware and recent Final Fantasy games, among others. This article will highlight four action RPGs that are just as impressive as The Witcher 3.

Hades & Hades II Continue to Prove Why Gamers Love Action RPGs

Both Hades and Hades II are highly acclaimed, modern action role-playing games that are closely linked. Hades, released in 2020, quickly became popular for its compelling story of Hades’ son trying to break free from the Underworld and reach Mount Olympus. Hades II is a direct continuation of the original game, marking the first time Supergiant Games has created a sequel.

In the game Hades, you play as Zagreus, the son of Hades. He’s trying to escape the Underworld and reach Mount Olympus to be with the other gods. Although Hades insists it’s impossible to leave, Zagreus gets help from figures like Nyx, making his escape seem more possible.

Zagreus is driven less by a desire to reach Mount Olympus and more by his wish to be with his mother, Persephone, on Earth. The game boasts a fantastic story and incredibly engaging gameplay that makes it hard to put down.

Similar to the first game, Hades II continues the story with a new challenge: Chronos, the Titan of Time, has seized control of the Underworld and imprisoned Hades, Persephone, and Zagreus. This time, you play as Melinoë, Hades’ daughter and Zagreus’ sister, and must defeat Chronos to free her family.

Chronos is a fascinating addition to the game; as the titan of time, he can even rewind events after being defeated. Many players have been so captivated by Hades II that they believe it’s even better than the original Hades.

I’m really loving both of these games! What’s especially cool is how you get help from the Greek Gods themselves – these ‘boons’ really make you feel like you’re part of those amazing myths. It adds so much to the experience!

Mass Effect 2 Is One of BioWare’s Best Games

Okay, so BioWare’s been through some tough times lately, especially with Dragon Age: The Veilguard not hitting the mark. A lot of us gamers, and the critics too, are pretty disappointed. But honestly, I remember a time when BioWare was the studio for amazing action RPGs – they used to be untouchable!

Fans of both high fantasy and science fiction have plenty of great options with the Dragon Age series and the Mass Effect games. Mass Effect 2 is widely considered the best game in the Mass Effect series, and many believe it represents BioWare’s finest work.

In this game, you play as Commander Shepard, a soldier tasked with defending humanity against the Collectors – a dangerous alien race that’s invading the galaxy. To succeed, you’ll need to use Shepard’s abilities in fighting, talking, and strategy to gather a team and stop the Collectors.

What makes Mass Effect 2 stand out is that it’s more than just a continuation of the first game. You can load your old save file, meaning choices you made in Mass Effect actually affect what happens in Mass Effect 2. Your decisions throughout the series have a real impact on the game world, determining who will help you and who will become your enemy.

While the very first Final Fantasy VII wasn’t an action RPG, the remake definitely is, and it’s a fantastic update to the original. It’s tough to say which Final Fantasy game is the best overall, but the first two games in the remake trilogy are strong contenders.

Players take on the role of Cloud Strife, a famous hero from the Final Fantasy series. The story unfolds in Midgar, a bleak city ruled by the Shinra Corporation. Shinra is destroying the planet by extracting its energy, threatening its very existence.

The original Final Fantasy VII used turn-based battles, but the remakes offer fast-paced, real-time action with classic RPG elements like a huge world to explore – the city of Midgar. While the story follows a set path, there’s still a lot to discover in this cyberpunk setting. With the final part of the remake series on the way, now is a great time to play Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth.

Bloodborne Is FromSoftware’s Most Famous Game & for Good Reason

Many FromSoftware fans are currently focused on Elden Ring, but it’s debatable whether it’s truly their greatest game. The title that deserves that distinction has been a long-standing debate, though one game is certainly a strong contender.

Bloodborne is a fantastic example of a great Soulsborne game. It’s difficult but incredibly satisfying, and features a captivating story where you play as a Hunter exploring the eerie, Victorian city of Yharnam. The city’s gothic design is stunning, but also creates a sense of unease, with darkness and monsters lurking everywhere.

Yharnam is gripped by a strange plague spread through the blood, transforming people into monstrous creatures. Players take on the role of a Hunter, tasked with discovering the origin of this illness and either eliminating it or finding a way to heal those affected.

This game expertly blends horror, action, and traditional RPG gameplay, creating a unique and unforgettable experience that many in the gaming industry consider to be one of the best games of all time. Although fans eagerly anticipate a remake of Bloodborne, the original remains a true classic.
