As a big soap opera and true crime fan, I’ve noticed something really unsettling. It looks like Emmerdale is heavily inspired by the recent streaming hit Death Cap: The Mushroom Murders next week. The storylines are eerily similar to the tragic real-life poisonings that happened in Leongatha, Australia in 2023 – it’s a bit chilling to see it play out on screen.
Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) hosts a dinner hoping to mend fences between the Dingle and Tate families, but the evening takes a dark turn when Kim Tate (Claire King) suddenly starts choking.
Fingers are pointed as it’s suspected she’s ate some dodgy mushrooms!
As a long-time viewer, I’m really intrigued by what’s happening in Emmerdale right now! Apparently, Tracy Robinson is leaving but has one last wish, and Jacob Sugden stumbles onto something shocking at work. Plus, they’re doing another special episode focusing just on two of the Dingle family – those episodes are always gold, so I’m definitely looking forward to that!
Here’s a rundown of what’s happening in Emmerdale from Sunday, March 29th, to Friday, April 3rd.
4 Emmerdale spoilers for next week
1. Kim Tate is poisoned amid her family’s war with the Dingles

Just when tensions between the Dingle and Tate families seemed to have peaked, Joe takes a drastic action that rocks the entire village: he has workers begin demolishing an old field on Butler’s Farm, and shockingly, this includes the memorial dedicated to the late Holly Barton.
Kim prepares to take a risk and goes to Wishing Well Cottage, even though Graham is worried. Lydia hopes to create a peaceful atmosphere with a special meal, but the moment things begin to improve, Kim suddenly chokes and falls unconscious.
Chaos unfolds as Cain and Liam race an unresponsive woman to the hospital. Meanwhile, back at the house, everyone starts to suspect something is wrong. Graham becomes more and more worried when Jacob explains that Kim’s illness seems to be caused by dangerous mushroom poisoning.

As tensions rise, the suspects gather in the back room of The Woolie, and Cain and Caleb quickly begin to argue. When Graham validates the idea about the mushrooms, everyone starts to suspect Sam.
Cain is shocked to learn his brother was given instructions on where to search for supplies. His brother even implies to the Tates that Cain might have wished harm upon Kim.
At the hospital, Joe pretended to be worried while Kim was in bed, but she didn’t believe him for a second, calling his concern fake.

2. Tracy Robinson’s exit story begins

As a critic, I’ve been following Tracy’s story, and it’s clear she’s ready for a fresh start. After everything that’s happened in the village this past year, she’s looking forward to leaving the Yorkshire Dales and pursuing a new career opportunity. It feels like a natural progression for her, and I’m excited to see what’s next.
Despite knowing she has to go, she still hopes Cain will come to say goodbye to his granddaughter, Frankie, before she leaves the village.
Cain was already facing immense hardship with his cancer, the loss of his home, and Moira being wrongly imprisoned. But through it all, his biggest regret wouldn’t be his own troubles – it would be missing the chance to say goodbye to Frankie.
3. A special Marlon and Paddy Dingle two-hander episode airs

Paddy tries to keep busy by focusing on work, but Rhona only allows him to do basic administrative tasks because he’s still suspended.
His attempt to go above and beyond for a client backfires, leaving him feeling discouraged after Vanessa expresses her disappointment and Rhona scolds him.
The situation becomes even more upsetting when a letter arrives with the date for their court hearing. Wanting to cheer Dylan up, Paddy proposes they do something enjoyable.

A touching drawing from Eve, including Dylan as family, brings a moment of warmth for him and Mandy. However, things quickly become difficult again when Paddy goes back to the vet and sees the bolt gun, bringing back painful memories.
He was totally overwhelmed, so he ran to Marlon. Thankfully, Marlon was right there to give him a big, comforting hug – exactly what he needed!

I’m really worried about Paddy right now. He’s completely falling apart with anxiety over the upcoming court case – he’s terrified of going to prison, and he hasn’t even been able to talk to Mandy about how awful he’s feeling. It’s heartbreaking. Thankfully, Marlon’s trying to help him cope by coming up with a really unexpected distraction, which is a nice thing to see.
Equipped with sledgehammers, the two went to Celia’s farm, and Paddy finally let out his frustrations by completely destroying the property!
4. Jacob Sugden is caught in a predicament at work

When a story about workplace bullying begins, Jacob is disturbed after seeing Dr. Todd physically grab and yell at a patient.
Despite fearing the consequences, he resolves to stand up and do the right thing.
How will Dr Todd respond to his behaviour?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1. Stream on ITVX.
