As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I’m absolutely loving what Disney+ is doing with the universe! It feels like a real reward for those of us who stuck with the animated series for years. For so long, those characters felt separate, living in their own world, but now, with shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, that barrier has completely broken down. Seeing Ahsoka Tano, who I adored in animation, become a live-action lead is just incredible. Her series isn’t just a new story, it’s a continuation of Star Wars Rebels, bringing back characters like Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and Ezra Bridger – and even the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn! It’s not just Ahsoka, though. Bo-Katan Kryze has become a serious player in the galactic politics, and the introduction of Cad Bane as a live-action bounty hunter was genuinely terrifying. It’s a fantastic time to be a Star Wars fan!
The world of live-action Star Wars is now strongly connected to the stories told in its animated series, confirming these characters are vital to the overall Star Wars universe. This blend of different storytelling styles opens up almost limitless possibilities, drawing on decades of content from animated projects that are now ready to be adapted for live-action. Shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels created complex storylines and characters that are already being explored in live-action. Newer shows, such as Star Wars: The Bad Batch, continue to expand on the post-Order 66 timeline. Even the unique anthology series, Star Wars: Visions, offers fresh ideas and characters that could bring a new perspective to the galaxy.
4) Hondo Ohnaka

Hondo Ohnaka first appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and quickly became known as the ultimate galactic rogue. This charming Weequay pirate always looks out for himself, and he’s famous for his dramatic personality and incredible luck. He’s encountered many of the most important characters from the prequel era, including Anakin Skywalker and Maul. Hondo is valuable to the Star Wars story because he adds unpredictable chaos and humor to everything he’s involved in. Although he’s a fan favorite and features prominently at Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge, Hondo hasn’t yet made an appearance in a live-action Star Wars film or series, and many fans believe it’s time for him to finally have one.
3) Captain Rex

As a huge fan, I’ve always been captivated by Captain Rex. Serving alongside Anakin Skywalker as a leader in the 501st Legion during the Clone Wars, he really grew from a dedicated soldier into someone who thought for himself and questioned what he was fighting for. His story is one of the most powerful in all of Star Wars, especially when he removed his inhibitor chip and defied Order 66 – it showed his true strength of character! Seeing him briefly in Ahsoka, with Temuera Morrison voicing him, was amazing, but honestly, it just wasn’t enough. We know he survived and fought at Endor, which means he’s still out there during the time of the New Republic. I, along with countless others, am dying to see a fully realized, older Rex – played by Morrison, of course! – sharing his years of experience and wisdom with the new heroes battling the Empire’s leftovers. He’d be an incredible asset, and it’s a story I really hope they tell.
2) The Ronin

The Star Wars: Visions series introduced exciting new takes on the Star Wars universe, and the character of the Ronin—a mysterious Sith hunter from the short film “The Duel”—quickly became a fan favorite. Set in a Japan-inspired world outside of established Star Wars storylines, the Ronin uses a red lightsaber to hunt down other dark side users. His popularity led to a novel and comic book that expanded his backstory. He recently appeared in a second Star Wars: Visions short, “The Duel: Payback.” A live-action adaptation of the Ronin’s story would offer a completely new Star Wars narrative, separate from the Skywalker family saga. It could be a visually impressive project that embraces the samurai influences George Lucas originally used, delivering an action-packed story that feels both fresh and true to the franchise’s style.
1) Asajj Ventress

Asajj Ventress is a fascinating character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Initially presented as a dangerous Sith assassin working for Count Dooku, she proved a powerful opponent for Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. But after Dooku betrayed her, Ventress faced a challenging journey, reconnecting with her Nightsister roots and eventually becoming a hardened bounty hunter. Her story is compelling because it shows a villain gradually moving towards redemption, which has made her very popular with fans. With a recent reappearance in Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, it’s clear her story isn’t finished. Ventress’s strong ties to Dathomir and the Nightsisters – a culture gaining prominence in live-action Star Wars – make her a great candidate for future projects. Her complex morality and exceptional fighting abilities would also make her a memorable character in the live-action universe.
