Collaborating with Superman is a privilege for any DC character, and Mister Terrific gets this chance in the first DC Universe film. He assists Superman in preventing Lex Luthor from destroying Metropolis. Although Mister Terrific is impressive, there are even more significant team-ups ahead for Superman. Regardless of whether Matt Reeves completes his Batman trilogy or not, the Batman is making his way to the DCU and is likely to encounter the world’s most crucial hero. Wonder Woman will soon join the action as well and showcase her strength alongside Superman, who hails from Krypton.
Before the DC Trinity unites, an unexpected partnership arises: Superman finds himself collaborating with his longtime adversary, Luthor, who will appear alongside him in James Gunn’s forthcoming DCU film titled “Man of Tomorrow”. Although Gunn is keeping most details under wraps, he hinted at a significant “threat” that will drive these arch-nemeses to work together. Four theories have emerged speculating on why Superman and Luthor are teaming up in “Man of Tomorrow”.
4) Darkseid Is Coming Sooner Rather Than Later
In simpler terms, Darkseid, ruler of Apokolips, is the DCU’s equivalent to Thanos. His ambition revolves around the Anti-Life Equation, a tool that grants him dominion over nearly everything in the universe. This villainous power might not be surpassed by many others, though bringing Darkseid into the early stages of the DC franchise could be premature. However, considering James Gunn’s introduction of Thanos in his Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s plausible that Darkseid could appear in the DC universe at some point.
3) Doomsday Picks a Fight With the Man of Steel
Superman emphasizes that he had never lost a fight until he encountered the Hammer of Boravia, who turned out to be a clone of himself. There aren’t many characters as powerful as Superman. The villain in the comics who gives him the most trouble is Doomsday, whose mission is always destruction. If Doomsday appears on Earth in “Man of Tomorrow,” Lex Luthor might be the only one with the intellect to stop him.
2) There’s a Crisis on Infinite Earths
Attempting to incorporate the most significant DC Comics event into the second film of the franchise demonstrates ambition, but “Man of Tomorrow” doesn’t necessarily need to plunge headfirst into the deep end immediately. The Anti-Monitor, a formidable villain intent on eradicating all of reality, may not align well with Luthor, who enjoys causing trouble for Superman. It’s likely that Luthor has some gadget hidden away in his collection capable of at least postponing the Anti-Monitor’s mission.
1) Brainiac Threatens Lex Luthor as Much as Superman
Among the suitable antagonists for “Man of Tomorrow”, it’s clear that Brainiac stands out as the most fitting choice. Given that he has yet to make a live-action movie debut, introducing this Coluan character could be an exciting fresh start. Luthor may empathize with Brainiac’s hunger for knowledge, but he would certainly object to Brainiac’s plans of erasing Earth from existence. Furthermore, the backstory between Brainiac and Krypton offers fertile ground for “Man of Tomorrow” to delve into.
Man of Tomorrow hits theaters on July 9, 2027.
