Fans are wondering if Clara Vought, also known as Libert and Stormfront, might still be alive in The Boys. Although she appeared to be killed in Season 2 by Ryan Butcher’s heat vision, Season 3 showed she was severely burned but still alive. She ultimately took her own life after Homelander refused to support her goal of creating a superpowered race of Aryans. However, recent events have left some questioning whether that was truly the end. Warning: Spoilers follow for The Boys Season 5, Episode 4, “King of Hell.”
The newest episodes of The Boys feature a trip to a deserted Vought facility called Fort Harmony. Homelander and Soldier Boy are among those searching for a supply of V-One. During the journey, a strained father-son dynamic emerges between them, and the name Clara comes up. Soldier Boy downplays his connection to her, but when Homelander reveals she died by suicide, Soldier Boy refuses to believe it, insisting she wouldn’t have done that. He then asks a crucial question: “Did you see a body?”
Could Stormfront Still Be Alive In The Boys? Should She Be?
It’s possible Stormfront is still alive in The Boys. In Season 3, Episode 2, we first see her in a hospital bed where Homelander rejects her suggestions, and she appears defeated. Later, Vought reports her suicide, showing someone on a stretcher in a body bag. However, the show never actually shows her dying, and we don’t get a clear visual confirmation that it is her.
A key moment in The Boys Season 5, Episode 4 highlights a common TV trope: if a character’s death isn’t shown on screen, there’s a possibility they’re still alive. This leaves room for Vought to be hiding something – perhaps they’ve taken the character for further experimentation, or to influence Homelander’s story. This ambiguity also gives the writers options for the future. The show has used this technique before, as seen with Queen Maeve, so a return for the character isn’t impossible.
It seems they’re moving forward with plans to bring Stormfront back. Following The Boys, we already know Stormfront will appear in the Vought Rising prequel, starring Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and set in the 1950s, with Aya Cash returning as Stormfront. Season 5 is laying the groundwork for this, hinting at Soldier Boy’s history and introducing other Supes like Bombsight. It wouldn’t be surprising if Stormfront were still alive today, which would allow Vought Rising to jump between the 1950s and the present day, following both her and Soldier Boy.
My main worry about bringing Stormfront back is whether there’s a good enough story reason for it, especially with only four episodes left in the final season of The Boys. Would we have enough time to properly explore that storyline? While Soldier Boy’s potential redemption could tie into it, there are other ways to achieve that. The show seems to have moved past Stormfront, and it might be more effective to focus on the characters who are currently active in the story.
New episodes of The Boys release on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
