4 Years Ago, Marvel Announced An MCU Sequel We’ve Heard Literally Nothing About

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a massive and incredibly successful franchise, but it’s not without its problems. Since its start in 2008, the MCU has introduced us to many great heroes and villains, becoming one of the biggest movie universes ever created. Despite its success, there have been times when things haven’t gone smoothly. Problems behind the scenes often lead to questionable choices and can be frustrating for fans, especially when movies are delayed.

Marvel quickly greenlit a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings after its initial success, recognizing the popularity of the martial arts hero. But since then, there’s been very little news about the project. This has led to speculation about the future of Shang-Chi 2, especially since it’s noticeably missing from Marvel’s upcoming release plans for 2026. Despite being a fan favorite introduced after Avengers: Endgame, it appears development on the sequel may have hit a roadblock.

MCU Fans Are Still Eagerly Awaiting Shang-Chi’s Return

It’s true that Marvel has said Shang-Chi will be back in Avengers: Doomsday, so the character hasn’t been ignored. When a sequel was first announced soon after the first movie came out, it looked like Marvel really believed in Shang-Chi and planned for him to be important in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But the lack of any news about that sequel is not only disappointing, it’s also quite puzzling.

Despite announcing a sequel four years ago, Marvel hasn’t yet delivered on the potential of ‘Shang-Chi.’ Updates have been scarce, mostly hinting at early production delays. This isn’t just frustrating for fans, but it also risks limiting how impactful Shang-Chi can be within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The longer Marvel waits to make a sequel to Shang-Chi, the more fans miss seeing the hero get his own follow-up story. While Shang-Chi will appear in the next Avengers films, it doesn’t replace the promised sequel that was hinted at four years ago and now seems to be on hold. The continued delays and lack of updates suggest Marvel may have reconsidered the project or doesn’t see Shang-Chi as a major priority. Either way, this could hurt the sequel’s chances of success when – or if – it finally comes out.
