He relies on his immense size and intimidating technology to stop criminals. Because he’s careful with resources, his gadgets are designed to be reused and are often built directly into his suit. Here’s a look at the most clever and effective gadgets he’s created in this universe.
5) Chainsaw Gauntlets
When a terrifying version of Poison Ivy from another universe appeared and seized control of a building with her vines, Batman was forced to fight back by essentially pruning trees. To deal with the overwhelming amount of dangerous plants and Poison Ivy duplicates, Batman created two large chainsaws that attached to his wrists. These weapons were crucial to his survival, allowing him to cut through the foliage. It was also a surprisingly brutal and exciting sight to see Batman, who usually avoids killing, unleash these chainsaws on the killer plants, reminiscent of Wolverine. The chainsaws also allowed DC Comics to playfully reference the popular manga and anime series, Chainsaw Man.
4) Shoulder Spikes
Batman’s iconic look is designed to intimidate criminals, and his armor includes a particularly frightening feature: extendable spikes. His durable shoulder and back armor can unleash massive spikes with a simple movement, instantly punishing anyone who tries to attack him from behind. This version of Batman, from the Absolute Universe, doesn’t have the usual billionaire resources or an endless supply of batarangs. That means he has to be careful with his weapons. Surprisingly, his iconic bat-ears are actually detachable knives! He can use them for both close-up fights and throwing at enemies from a distance. With just these two knives, Batman can subdue many criminals without killing them, and he can throw them rapidly and accurately. He can even rotate the knives within his mask to use them as spikes during a headbutt, as he did to defeat the villain Black Mask, effectively blinding him.
2) Clawed Cape
What makes bats unique among flying animals is their clawed thumbs, which they use for gripping and perching. The Batman of the Absolute Universe is the first version of the character to mimic this ability, and he does so with a remarkable gadget: hook-like claws hidden within his cape. These claws allow Batman to grab and throw enemies from afar, stand at great heights, hang upside down like a bat, and even swing across buildings, adding a new level of versatility and creativity to his action sequences – all inspired by the bats he admires.

Few things are as iconic in comic book history as Batman’s Bat-Axe. This incredibly cool gadget allows Batman to detach his bat emblem from his suit and attach it to a staff, transforming it into a powerful battle axe.
