The second Tenchu game built upon the first, aiming to make improvements. Initially, Activision intended to release it only in Western markets, but that plan changed. Interestingly, the developers removed some uniquely Japanese features, which was an unusual decision.

Okay, so a lot of people think Tenchu 2 is better than the first game, and honestly, they’ve got a point. 2) Tenchu: Stealth Assassins

While the first Tenchu game might not be as polished as the second, its emphasis on stealth is slightly stronger. Plus, the levels themselves are brilliantly designed. Although creating your own missions in the sequel was enjoyable, these professionally made levels are truly exceptional.

The game features 11 unique levels designed for stealth, offering players multiple ways to reach their goals. Tenchu was a huge success, becoming Activision’s top-selling game in 1998 and remaining the most popular title from developer Acquire until the release of Octopath Traveler in 2018. This lasting impact highlights how much players appreciated the detailed and clever level design in the original Tenchu.

Looking back, there was just no way anything else could have had the impact Metal Gear Solid did when it came out in ’98. It completely changed the game! As a fan, I remember Hideo Kojima’s first Solid game launching and instantly becoming one of the most important series ever. Honestly, if you were into video games in the late ’90s, you had to try Metal Gear Solid – everyone was talking about it and wanted to see if it lived up to all the buzz.

Syphon Filter offered a good blend of stealth and action, but Metal Gear Solid truly stands out. The original controls might take some getting used to, but once you master them, the sheer variety of options available is incredible.
