Despite being very different, Spider-Man and Wolverine often make a great team in Marvel Comics. Spider-Man gained his powers as a young teen and has been learning the ropes ever since, while Wolverine is a much older mutant haunted by a difficult past involving the Weapon X program. Their contrasting backgrounds somehow lead to some of the most enjoyable team-ups in comics, though Wolverine doesn’t always get Spider-Man’s jokes!
Whether they’re battling across time or just getting into trouble at a local bar, these are some of the greatest team-ups between Spider-Man and Wolverine in Marvel Comics history.
5) Spider-Man & Wolverine (2025)

The new comic book team-up between Wolverine and Spider-Man is still unfolding as 2025 ends, and it’s currently unclear how the story will conclude. In Spider-Man & Wolverine, Wolverine seeks Spider-Man’s help to locate the Janus Directory—a dangerous database containing the identities and missions of all undercover agents. Their search quickly leads to conflicts with villains from both heroes’ histories, beginning with familiar foes like Kraven, Omega Red, and Mysterio, and continuing with others.
The story takes an unexpected turn, revealing Wolverine knew Spider-Man’s parents and may be connected to their deaths. The series is packed with action and takes place all over the world, driven by a villain seeking revenge for the loss of his own family, and who holds the heroes responsible.
4) Spider-Man and Wolverine (2003)

The 2003 Marvel Comics series Spider-Man and Wolverine was part of the Marvel Knights line. This four-issue story begins with Nick Fury asking Spider-Man to locate and rescue Wolverine, who has been kidnapped. The story then reveals how Spider-Man actually found and freed Wolverine before Fury even asked him to.
This story shares similar themes with a later storyline from 2025, focusing on a villain who blames superheroes for his mother’s death – she was caught in the crossfire during a battle. While this story primarily explains the events through flashbacks, it’s an enjoyable read with some unexpected turns. However, it doesn’t quite reach the level of the very best Spider-Man and Wolverine team-up adventures.
3) Wolverine #74 (2009)

What sets Wolverine #74 apart is that it’s a standalone story – not part of a larger arc. The issue features a team-up between Spider-Man and Wolverine, and begins with Spider-Man finding Wolverine alone at a bar. Spider-Man then confronts Logan, pointing out some difficult realities about his life.
This quickly escalates into a brief brawl between the two heroes, which is cut short when robbers attempt to hold up the bar – a mistake they soon realize. Wolverine and Spider-Man immediately team up and defeat the robbers. The most memorable part of the scene is what happens afterward: Wolverine confesses to Spider-Man that his anger stems from his own fears and regrets about his past, and Spider-Man offers him unwavering support.
2) Spider-Man Versus Wolverine (1986)

The first significant team-up between Wolverine and Spider-Man occurred in 1986 and had lasting consequences for both characters. The story began with Peter Parker and his friend Ned Leeds traveling to Berlin to work on a news assignment. While there, they were unexpectedly attacked by the KGB, hired by a villain known as the Foreigner, who killed Ned. This shocking event later became connected to the mystery surrounding the Hobgoblin, with Ned’s involvement remaining a secret.
The story centers on Spider-Man and Wolverine, who were both tracking down an assassin called Charlemagne. They located her in a cemetery, and while Wolverine attempted to rescue her, she ambushed Spider-Man, counting on his spider-sense to make him react. He didn’t realize it was her, and his resulting punch accidentally killed her. This deeply traumatized Spider-Man, as he avoids killing at all costs, and it made Wolverine even more protective of him going forward.
1) Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine (2010)

Many fans consider the 2010 miniseries Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine to be the ultimate team-up between these two heroes. This six-issue story, crafted by Jason Aaron and Adam Kubert, was a thrilling and complex adventure involving time travel. It showed Spider-Man and Wolverine, despite their differences, forming a strong friendship.
This story was particularly impactful for the pair, taking them on a challenging journey through time. They faced off against the powerful Doom the Living Planet and the unpredictable Phoenix Force, which was a lot of excitement. But the most memorable part was when they found themselves in the 18th century, where they spent a significant amount of time. They formed a deep bond, becoming like brothers, and Peter Parker even began planning a life with a woman named Sara Bailey. Ultimately, the TVA intervened, bringing Wolverine and Logan back to the present and forcing them to confront the life they’d left behind. It was a moving experience with truly exceptional storytelling.
