It’s frustrating when you have to wait a long time for the next season of a show you love. Fans are eagerly anticipating the final season of Stranger Things, where the people of Hawkins will face Vecna and the monsters from the Upside Down for the last time – and they’re anxious to find out what happens to their favorite characters. Similarly, The Boys is also preparing to release its final season on Prime Video, promising plenty of action and hoping that the main characters will survive the chaos.
While fans waited for the next season of The Boys, the show kept them engaged with its spin-off, Gen V. Now that Gen V has finished, here are five other great superhero TV shows to watch until Season 5 of The Boys arrives.
5) Powerless

What I really love about The Boys is how grounded it is. It’s not about the superheroes themselves, but the ordinary people living with them, and how having these powerful figures around can actually make things worse. It’s a unique angle, and while there aren’t a ton of shows tackling this, I’ve found one that explores the same ideas with just as much impact.
The NBC show Powerless is set in the DC Universe and centers around a team working for a Wayne Enterprises branch. Their job is to develop technology that protects everyday people during superhero fights. Although it only lasted one season, Powerless features some truly funny moments throughout its 12 episodes, including a memorable episode revolving around Superman’s ability to reverse time.
4) The Umbrella Academy

I’ve seen so many superhero stories where having powers is this amazing, wonderful thing, but The Boys really shook things up for me. It showed me that superpowers aren’t always a blessing – they can be a huge burden. And now, I’m watching this new Netflix show that’s doing the same thing! It’s about characters who don’t want to be superheroes, they just want to live normal lives, and I’m totally hooked.
The Umbrella Academy follows the Hargreeves siblings, all adopted by a wealthy eccentric who was fascinated by people with superpowers. Though they were trained to be heroes, they all have their issues as adults. Despite their personal struggles, they’re compelled to use their abilities to save the world.
3) Doom Patrol

Action and special effects are important for superhero shows, but they aren’t enough to make a show truly great. A show needs genuine emotional depth, and The Boys excels at that. The series focuses on its characters dealing with complex feelings, particularly in their relationships with those around them.
Like many shows, Doom Patrol lets both its heroes and villains explore their inner lives. The series centers around a group of misfits who live and work together thanks to a man called The Chief, though they don’t always approach their missions with much seriousness. What sets Doom Patrol apart is its willingness to let characters be imperfect and accept their flaws, which adds a unique charm.
2) Invincible

The show The Boys is known for its intense violence and graphic content. It uses this to demonstrate just how dangerous superheroes – or ‘Supes’ – can be, especially when they can’t control their powers. However, The Boys isn’t the only action-packed superhero series available on Prime Video.
Inspired by a comic book, Invincible centers around Mark Grayson, who develops superpowers similar to his father’s. As he becomes a hero, Mark uncovers the harsh realities of his abilities and faces dangerous enemies who threaten him and his loved ones.
1) Peacemaker

Although The Boys tackles serious themes of fighting against powerful, corrupt figures, it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The show acknowledges the inherent absurdity of superheroes and often highlights it. HBO Max, a competing streaming service, employs a similar comedic approach in one of its popular shows.
Both seasons of Peacemaker playfully poke fun at DC’s most famous heroes, with no one being safe from a joke—even Superman! While the show is hilarious, it also has surprisingly heartfelt moments that will make viewers want to keep watching.
The Boys is streaming on Prime Video.
