Let’s talk Sydney Sweeney. She’s absolutely everywhere right now, and with James Gunn building his new DC Universe, a lot of roles are still open. I’m hearing whispers that Sweeney is definitely on the radar, and honestly, it makes sense. She’s a huge star with a packed schedule already, but people are already starting to speculate about whether she might add another superhero cape to her wardrobe. It’s early days, but keep an eye on this one – she could be a major player in the DCU.

DC Studios is just beginning to build its new DC Universe, with only a few projects announced so far: Creature Commandos, Superman, and Season 2 of Peacemaker, all planned for release by the end of 2025. Currently, David Corenswet is the only actor cast as a member of the Justice League, meaning many more roles need to be filled. Sydney Sweeney, who has previous experience with superhero films thanks to her role in Sony’s Madame Web, could be a strong contender for one of those parts.
5 Potential DCU Reboot Roles for Sydney Sweeney
Black Canary

Black Canary is a highly skilled martial artist who’s appeared in several live-action adaptations since 2000. Her signature ability is a powerful sonic scream – often called the ‘canary cry’ – that can disable opponents. She’s famous for teaming up with groups like the Birds of Prey and alongside Green Arrow. Recently, Jurnee Smollett portrayed Dinah Lance as Black Canary in the 2020 film Birds of Prey, following performances by Katie Cassidy and Caity Lotz who played different versions of the character in the Arrowverse.
This role would be a great opportunity for Sweeney to demonstrate her skills in action sequences, including fighting and a unique interpretation of Black Canary’s signature sonic scream. With her naturally blonde hair already matching the character, the acclaimed actress could easily step into the part and offer a fresh take on the heroine within the DC Universe.
Wonder Girl (Cassie Sandsmark)

DC Studios is searching for an actress to play Wonder Woman, and they’re also considering Wonder Girl as another powerful character to add to the universe. Wonder Girl, often known as Cassandra Sandsmark, is the demigod daughter of Zeus, possessing incredible strength, the ability to fly, and a special lasso that crackles with lightning.
Sweeney is a strong contender to play this superhero, who hasn’t yet appeared in a live-action DC film. She’s well-equipped to handle the character’s action-packed scenes and visual effects, and her popularity could significantly raise the profile of this new heroine for DC.
Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn, originally Dr. Harleen Quinzel, has become one of the most popular female characters in DC’s live-action adaptations in recent years. Brought to life by Margot Robbie and Lady Gaga in films, and voiced by Kaley Cuoco in her animated series, Harley’s story centers on a psychiatrist who transforms into a chaotic criminal after an accident, using her athletic abilities and fighting skills to battle opponents.
If DC Studios is looking for a major star to play Harley Quinn in the new DC Universe, Anya Sweeney would be an excellent choice. With a little red and blue hair dye, she could bring a fantastic and energetic performance to the role, fitting in perfectly with the other actors and characters.
Batgirl (Stephanie Brown)

Although Barbara Gordon is the most well-known Batgirl, Stephanie Brown is another famous version of the character. Stephanie, whose father is the villain Cluemaster, became a vigilante to try and stop him. She developed into a somewhat impulsive member of the Bat Family, becoming skilled in acrobatics and fighting.
Looking at Sydney Sweeney’s previous work in projects like Madame Web, Anyone But You, and Euphoria, this role could give her a chance to play Batgirl in a new and interesting way. Like those other projects, it would allow for realistic action scenes while also exploring the fantastical elements often found in Batman stories.
Power Girl

Many DC Universe fans have suggested Sydney Sweeney for the role of Power Girl. Power Girl, also known as Kara Zor-L, is a version of Supergirl from another reality who is older and more assertive. Like Superman and Supergirl, she has incredible powers such as super strength, flight, heat vision, and X-ray vision. She’s also a brilliant scientist and inventor.
As a huge fan of Karen Gillan, I think she’d be absolutely perfect as Power Girl! It would be so cool to see her take on a totally different role than anything she’s done in the Marvel universe. Forget Spider-Man abilities – imagine her flying, blasting heat vision, and playing a character with a brilliant mind! It would really let her show off a whole new side of her talent.
