5 EastEnders spoilers next week: Grant Mitchell’s emotional return as Nigel Bates dies

EastEnders is set for a deeply emotional week as Grant Mitchell, played by Ross Kemp, returns for a heartbreaking event.

Mark Fowler called Grant, worried about Nigel Bates’s failing health, and this also made Grant start to worry about his brother, Phil.

Nigel and his brother shared a heartfelt talk on the beach right before Nigel passed away.

Ravi Gulati learns more about his mental health, Max Branning and Cindy Beale confirm their relationship, and Big Mo Harris has a reason to celebrate this week.

Here’s a rundown of what’s happening on EastEnders from Monday, April 27th, to Thursday, April 30th.

5 EastEnders spoilers for next week

1. Grant Mitchell returns and has concerns for brother Phil

After receiving a worried voicemail from his son Mark about Nigel’s failing health, Grant rushes to Albert Square, immediately drawing the attention of his family. Mark also shares his concerns about Phil’s well-being, adding to the worry.

Grant and Phil last saw each other when Phil was struggling with his mental health. Now, Phil is worried he’s lost all the progress he’d made in getting better.

After ten years – since their mother, Peggy, passed away – Phil, Grant, and Sam Mitchell (played by Kim Medcalf) finally meet to talk things through. The reunion is filled with emotion and tension, ultimately leading Phil to decide he wants no further contact with his brothers.

He orders Sam and Mark out of the door, and she worries that only Grant can help him.

Phil has been avoiding Nigel and is now feeling down, believing his family doesn’t need his help. Grant tries to find his brother, who is looking for something from Nigel’s past, but Grant is forced to decide if he should help Phil or be with Nigel as he nears the end of his life.

The brothers had a fierce argument on the beach, and Phil found it hard to cope after Nigel’s death.

Grant catches up with Linda, and the pair have an open conversation about Phil.

2. Nigel Bates dies following his battle with pneumonia and young-onset dementia

Grant was deeply upset when he visited Nigel at the care home and saw how much his condition had worsened, and he couldn’t understand why Phil hadn’t told him sooner. He then had a serious conversation with Sam and was shocked to learn that Julie had decided to end her husband’s treatment and focus on making him comfortable in his final days.

Phil and Nigel haven’t spoken for weeks, and Billy Mitchell is worried things will escalate, so he’s trying to help them resolve their issues.

Grant stays by his friend’s hospital bed and is surprised when his friend suddenly wakes up and asks him for a specific object. Grant then goes looking for it and ends up facing off with Phil.

Billy and Mark were surprised to find the brothers gone when they went to house number 55 hoping for a new discovery. Grant found Phil at the beach, but just as he was about to reach him, Julie called with terrible news: Nigel was nearing the end of his life.

They’re rushing to get back to the care home, but face several delays along the way. Julie and the residents are saying their goodbyes when Nigel desperately tries to reach Phil – and manages to arrive just in time for a final farewell.

He passed away, which was a great loss for everyone. The community rallied around Julie and Phil, organizing a lovely event to celebrate Nigel’s life.

Julie is heartbroken, but warmed by the residents’ reaction.

3. Ravi Gulati receives a diagnosis

Following another instance of self-harm and preventing his partner, Priya Nandra-Hart, and their children, Avani and Davinder, from leaving their home, Ravi was clearly struggling more than ever before.

Starting next week, he will be receiving care in a mental health facility, where doctors have diagnosed him with complex post-traumatic stress disorder.

A therapy plan is put in place.

4. Max Branning and Cindy Beale grow closer

Okay, as a huge fan of this show, I’m getting seriously stressed! It feels like time is running out for Max to figure out who he’s going to end up with before that big jump forward in the story next January. And honestly? Everything’s pointing towards Cindy being the one he marries! It’s so exciting (and a little nerve-wracking) to think it might actually be her.

Cindy initially accepts a date with him, even though she planned to stand him up. However, when she sees him talking to Linda Carter, she gets jealous and changes her mind, deciding to actually go on the date.

Things are tricky for us right now, so we’re trying to keep what’s going on between us under wraps. It was a bit of a scare when Lauren nearly found out, though! That made us realize we need to be ready to share things with everyone when the moment feels right, but for now, it’s just about being careful.

How will the Beales and the Brannings respond?

5. Big Mo celebrates her 90th birthday

Next week’s photos reveal a heartwarming scene in Slater as the community comes together to throw a 90th birthday party for Big Mo.

She was surprised to find the pub decorated with balloons and banners, and immediately hugged Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness), who appeared to be the one who organized everything.

Mo usually celebrates her birthday in February, but she might have forgotten it this year with everything happening during Jasmine’s trial.

Perhaps she just wants a second birthday, which would be very Mo!
