Next week on EastEnders, a difficult time turns much worse. While the Mitchells are attending Nigel Bates’s funeral to comfort his wife, Julie, they discover that Mark Fowler has been abducted.
Deeply in debt to a drug gang for £30,000, he tries to solve his problems by involving Lauren Beale (Jacqueline Jossa) in a dishonest car scheme.
With Phil and Grant Mitchell away searching for Mark, Julie is thankfully able to lean on her son, Josh, and stepdaughter, Clare, for support.
Meanwhile, Oscar Branning is caught in the middle of a romantic dilemma once more. Gina Knight is worried about her grandfather Eddie, and Denise Fox’s health continues to decline as she awaits a diagnosis for blood cancer.
As a total EastEnders addict, I’ve got the lowdown on what’s going on in Albert Square this week! Here’s a peek at the storylines unfolding in the episodes between Monday, May 18th, and Thursday, May 21st.
5 EastEnders spoilers for next week
1. The Mitchells unite as Mark Fowler is held hostage

Trouble is brewing at the car lot after Max Branning (Jake Wood) discovers several of their classic cars have been destroyed by fire in a quarry.
Lauren confronts Mark, but he claims he wasn’t involved. Sam Mitchell then lies, making it seem like Max was the one responsible.
Lauren’s accusations really upset him, and the timing couldn’t be worse. He was on the verge of finalizing an agreement to make them equal partners in the business.
Mark discovers Lauren is having money troubles again and needs help paying for childcare for their son, Jimmy. He then suggests she sell stolen cars, and the potential profit is too tempting for her to ignore.

Mark is still dealing with a $30,000 debt, but Grant comes to the rescue by selling his bar in Portugal and offering financial help. Mark refuses, insisting he can handle things on his own, even as Lauren pushes him to explain what happened with the car scam.
Max is suspicious and asks his brother, Jack, to look into something, which quickly reveals a history of questionable behavior. However, Max has more pressing problems – the people he owes money to send a threatening message, forcing him to turn to Priya for help getting into the safe at the car lot.
Just as he was about to take the money, a message from Lauren filled him with guilt, and he angrily rushed over to Phil’s house. He dropped his keys, and before he could even ask Grant for assistance, several masked men forced him into a car and sped away.

The Mitchells worried about his missing presence the next morning, but they tried to concentrate on the difficult day ahead – Nigel’s funeral.
Vicki Fowler is also concerned and asks Phil and Grant to intervene. Meanwhile, Russell Delaney, a crime boss, calls demanding immediate payment of the money owed. The situation gets worse when he recognizes Sam’s voice – the two share a complicated past.
Phil strongly believes they should visit the service station first, and Grant and Sam eventually agree, though unwillingly. But when they learn Mark’s life is in danger, they understand time is critical and, along with Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick), rush off to find him.
Will they make it to the funeral in time?

Things get heated when Russell causes a tense situation, and Grant’s return to The Vic results in a major fight with Harvey Monroe, ultimately leading to Kat Moon kicking him out. Elsewhere, Lauren is thrilled with her car sales and happily gives her father the money she earned.
He congratulated her on securing the deal, but was curious about the source of the cars and cautioned her to be more careful next time. Still puzzled, Max found Mark’s keys and turned to Priya for answers about what had happened.

2. Oscar Branning struggles to keep his distance from Josh Goodwin

Oscar meets his girlfriend, Jasmine Fisher, and her twin brother, Josh, at the park, and the three of them quickly connect while playing a game from their childhood. However, it becomes clear that a romantic rivalry is developing, as Oscar finds himself attracted to Josh as well. The situation escalates when Jasmine discovers that Josh played the game with their adoptive mother, Sandra, leaving her hurt and prompting her to leave abruptly.

Okay, so things got really intense between me and Josh. He was clearly feeling bad about something, and I tried to reassure him, but it led to a surprisingly charged moment between us. We both stepped back afterward, deciding we needed space, but I couldn’t help but talk to my cousin Penny about it. Then, later that same day, I walked into The Prince Albert and saw Josh flirting with another guy, and honestly, I couldn’t hide how jealous I felt. It was a mess!
3. Gina Knight is worried about Eddie

Now that Eddie is in charge, Gina worries about him and shares her concerns with her father, George Knight (Colin Salmon).
She strongly objects to her adoptive grandfather’s presence in their lives due to his hateful and racist views, unaware that Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) only allowed him to stay as a desperate attempt to save her struggling businesses.
By next week, has she discovered the truth?
4. Denise Fox struggles ahead of her blood cancer diagnosis

Last week, it was announced that Denise will soon receive a devastating diagnosis of blood cancer.
Recently, the character has felt unusually tired, and Sam encouraged her to see a doctor. She will ultimately receive a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia.
I can’t wait to see what happens next! Apparently, Denise is helping Sam cook for the Mitchells, but she tells everyone she’s just tired, even though it seems like something more is going on. She’s kind of dismissing their worries, which is making me wonder what she’s really hiding!
5. Clare Bates and Josh Saunders return for Nigel Bates’s funeral

EastEnders fans are mourning the loss of Nigel, a beloved character in Walford. He sadly passed away last month from pneumonia, a condition brought on by his early-onset dementia.
Though sad, longtime fans will likely be happy to see Julie reunited with her son Josh and step-daughter Clare after nearly thirty years. Gemma Bissix returned as Clare earlier this year, but this marks the first time Jon Lee, from S Club, has been back with the show since 1998.

The morning of the funeral brought unexpected visitors, disrupting Phil and Julie. Julie was having trouble finishing her husband’s eulogy, but with help from Phil and others, she was able to write a moving speech.
Once everyone was assembled at the church, Julie and Phil had a touching moment together, but Sam interrupted, insisting on speaking with her brother.
That night, Julie finally opens Nigel’s letter. What will it say?
