I’ve always loved how DC isn’t scared to give its villains really compelling stories. It’s especially true with Batman – so many times, the bad guys end up being the most memorable part of the movies! Think about Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight – a lot of people consider it the best performance ever in a comic book film. He was terrifying, running Gotham ragged, and we never even knew why he was doing it! The Joker movie from 2019 took a different approach, really digging into the character’s backstory, but it did it in a way that made you understand how someone could become that villain – it showed that sometimes, evil isn’t just about the person, but about the world around them. And honestly, as amazing as the Joker is, he’s not even the strongest villain in DC’s lineup!
DC Comics often has trouble bringing its strongest villains to life on screen. Doomsday looked unimpressive in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Darkseid didn’t make much of an impact in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. However, there are several villains who could help DC improve its track record. Here are five incredibly powerful DC villains that haven’t been featured in a movie yet.
5) Vandal Savage

Vandal Savage is an incredibly ancient villain. He gained immortality – and sometimes superhuman abilities – after encountering a meteorite long ago. But his greatest strength isn’t physical; it’s his brilliant mind, which he uses to dominate civilizations and defeat even the most powerful heroes. With such extensive knowledge and experience, Savage poses a real challenge to any DC hero, including Superman, something James Gunn should consider as he develops the future of the DC Universe’s Superman stories.
4) Helspont

Helspont is another dangerous enemy of Superman, originally appearing in Wildstorm comics. He’s a Daemonite, a race known for possessing and controlling other lifeforms, and Helspont takes over a particularly powerful host. This gives him immense strength, speed, and the ability to move objects with his mind. While not as well-known as villains like Darkseid or Doomsday, Helspont’s relative obscurity could be a benefit. It allows filmmakers creative freedom to shape him into a truly threatening opponent without being constrained by established lore.
3) Trigon

As a huge DC fan, it really bugs me that some awesome villains are just… waiting in the wings! Take Trigon, Raven’s dad, for example. He’s a seriously powerful threat, but mostly we only see him causing trouble for the Teen Titans. It feels like a waste! Honestly, the guy has the potential to be a universe-level villain, to really shake things up across the entire DCU. If a Teen Titans movie is what it takes to finally introduce him properly, okay, fine. But DC Studios should be thinking bigger – especially if they’re still searching for that one ultimate villain to drive the whole universe forward.
2) The Batman Who Laughs

This article begins by noting the Joker’s popularity, but The Batman Who Laughs is on a completely different level. Born from Batman’s exposure to a dangerous toxin, this villain eventually merges with Doctor Manhattan, granting him near-limitless power. While some villains simply want to cause chaos, The Batman Who Laughs aims to destroy the entire multiverse. He’s the ultimate movie villain.
1) Imperiex

When it comes to multiversal threats, Imperiex is a major one – he aims to destroy everything. This brings him into direct conflict with Superman, who finds it incredibly difficult to defeat a villain who represents total chaos. Ultimately, it takes the combined power of all Earth’s heroes and the New Gods of Apokolips to finally stop him. While the DC Universe might not be ready for a story of that scale just yet, Imperiex is a compelling villain who deserves a chance to shine on the big screen.
