The Marvel Cinematic Universe is divided into phases to help fans know the best order to watch everything. But looking at the movies and shows by release year gives you a different perspective. While movies released in the same year aren’t always directly connected, they often reflect the overall tone and quality of the MCU at that time. For instance, 2014 was a strong year for Marvel, with hits like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. Conversely, 2013 was a weaker year, producing less impressive solo films like Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World.
2025 was an uneven year for the MCU. While some projects were fantastic, others didn’t quite succeed. Despite this, all of them introduced characters we’d love to see more of. Unfortunately, it looks like a few of these great characters won’t be returning. Here are five from 2025 we probably won’t see again.
5) Red Hulk

Instead of continuing the story from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Captain America: Brave New World actually picks up the threads from The Incredible Hulk, with Samuel Sterns, also known as The Leader, as the primary villain. His main goal is revenge against Thunderbolt Ross, and he plans to transform Ross into the very thing he despises – a Hulk. While Ross manages to control his anger and suppress his Red Hulk persona, it’s unlikely he’ll appear in future movies, particularly given Harrison Ford’s apparent lack of interest in returning to the role.
4) Infinity Hulk

The animated series Marvel Zombies features another version of the Hulk. This Hulk, called Infinity Hulk, contains the power of all the Infinity Stones. Scarlet Witch attacks him, and despite the efforts of a team of brave heroes, her zombie army easily defeats them, clearing a path for her. The series ends without showing what happens to Infinity Hulk, but it’s likely something bad – his energy is completely drained. At best, he probably faces a quiet end.
3) The Last Black Panther

Besides Marvel Zombies, Marvel Studios released another animated series this year called Eyes of Wakanda. It follows the War Dogs, warriors from different eras, as they initially try to steal vibranium from Wakanda. However, the story takes a turn in “The Last Panther,” where the War Dogs end up returning the vibranium to help the future queen of Wakanda. Though she appears briefly, the new queen proves to be just as strong and protective of her homeland as those who came before her, defending it against any dangers.
2) Sidewinder

The main villain prefers to operate from the shadows, relying on strategy rather than physical confrontation. He dispatches Sidewinder, head of the SERPENT organization, to harass Captain America (Sam Wilson). While Sidewinder puts up a strong fight, he’s ultimately apprehended. However, this leads to a surprising turn: Sidewinder betrays his employer and offers his help to Captain America. Despite this potential alliance, Captain America is currently overwhelmed with other issues and doesn’t anticipate needing Sidewinder’s assistance anytime soon.
1) Mole Man

In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Mister Fantastic finds himself needing to cooperate with a former enemy, much like Captain America has done. When the Fantastic Four learn that Galactus is heading to Earth with destructive intentions, they turn to Mole Man for assistance. Mole Man allows them access to his underground realm, Subterranea, giving the team a chance to save the planet. However, Mole Man isn’t likely to be a strong ally against Doctor Doom, and will likely remain safely underground while the Fantastic Four handle the real threats.
