As a big MCU fan, I’ve noticed it rarely focuses on aerial combat. Sure, we have Iron Man and characters who can fly, but most of the action happens at street level, and honestly, I think that’s a good thing. It’s just easier to connect with the characters when you can see their faces, you know? But the MCU does have spaceships, and they get some screen time. The problem is, everything feels a little… overshadowed by the Guardians of the Galaxy and their incredibly unique ride. It’s tough for any other ship to stand out when you compare it to that one!
Throughout the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, Peter Quill’s ship, the Milano, serves as the team’s home and transportation. It’s well-equipped for travel and defense. However, the Milano’s prominence often overshadows other fantastic ships in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here are five MCU ships that stand out as even better.
5) Q-Ship

As a huge MCU fan, I’ve noticed villains always know how to make a grand entrance. Remember Ultron crashing the Avengers’ party in Age of Ultron and totally freaking everyone out? Or Loki easily outsmarting a whole team of soldiers in The Avengers? But for me, Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian really set the bar. Arriving on Earth in the Q-Ship? That was epic!
In Avengers: Infinity War, a giant, ring-shaped spacecraft arrives in New York City, immediately grabbing everyone’s attention. Its immense size and spinning parts are deeply unsettling, even to powerful heroes like Iron Man and Doctor Strange. Beyond just being intimidating, the vessel is also incredibly fast and capable of traveling vast distances across the galaxy.
4) Commodore

Asgard possesses powerful, chariot-like ships for transporting its warriors, but they rarely see action. These ships are mostly used when Asgard itself is under attack, which explains why Thor is always eager to try out other modes of transportation. In Thor: Ragnarok, he and his friends take control of the Commodore, a ship belonging to the Grand Master of Sakaar.
The Grand Master’s ship is full of quirky things, like a flashing strobe light. Luckily, the ship, called the Commodore, is well-defended. It has a powerful hidden gun that easily defeats Hela’s undead army in Ragnarok. It’s unfortunate that the Commodore is destroyed during Infinity War.
3) Helicarrier

The Avengers takes everything to a larger scale. It features a large team of heroes facing off against a massive army of villains, and includes an impressive ship – S.H.I.E.L.D.’s helicarrier. This ship, which plays a key role in the early Marvel Cinematic Universe, is capable of housing other vehicles and weapons, and can even become invisible.
The helicarrier often gets criticized because Hydra tried to use three of them to attack thousands of people globally, but that actually proves how powerful and effective the ship is. Despite being associated with Hydra, the helicarrier reappears in Age of Ultron, helping to evacuate the citizens of Sokovia before their city is destroyed.
2) Excelsior

The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s original superhero team to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story shows how Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Ben Grimm, and Johnny Storm gain their powers. During a space mission, they’re hit with cosmic radiation, which permanently transforms them. They come back to Earth with superpowers, but they still need to breathe air – they can’t survive in space without assistance.
In the story First Steps, when Galactus appears, the Fantastic Four takes off in the Excelsior to confront him. The ship proves crucial, rescuing them from a dangerous situation by withstanding the immense gravity of a neutron star. It’s also equipped with weapons powerful enough to disrupt the Silver Surfer.
1) Sanctuary II

In spaceship battles, size isn’t everything—Ronan’s ship is easily defeated in Guardians of the Galaxy. But when a villain has both power and a strong ship, things get serious. For example, Thanos arrives in the Sanctuary II at the end of Thor: Ragnarok, and Thor and Loki instantly realize they’re facing an incredibly dangerous enemy.
The Sanctuary II remains a major threat throughout both Infinity War and Endgame, filled with dangerous facilities like torture chambers and a massive arsenal capable of destroying the Avengers’ base. While Captain Marvel eventually defeats the ship, it still inflicts significant damage across the galaxy.
