Star Wars consistently revisits a few key elements. The Millennium Falcon, famously Han Solo’s ship and home to Luke Skywalker and others in the original films, reappears throughout the saga. After a period of disuse on Jakku, it returns to aid the Resistance against the First Order in the sequel trilogy, and even makes a brief appearance in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. However, the Falcon isn’t the only recurring icon in the Star Wars universe.
Lightsabers are the preferred weapon for almost anyone who can use the Force, whether they follow the path of good or evil. With so many lightsabers around, regular citizens in the Star Wars galaxy are at a disadvantage, but they’ve developed clever ways to defend themselves. Here are five famous Star Wars weapons that can actually outmatch a lightsaber.
5) Bowcaster

Before joining Luke and the others in Star Wars: A New Hope, Han Solo and Chewbacca were smugglers, making them quite resourceful. Chewbacca doesnât often need to get directly involved in fights, though, because his Bowcaster is so effective. This powerful weapon, which works like a laser crossbow, delivers a strong impact and causes a small explosion with every hit.
In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Chewbacca shoots Kylo Ren in the stomach with his bowcaster immediately after Kylo kills Han Solo. This shot causes Kylo to stumble, and he appears shaken and off-balance during his subsequent fight with Rey. Had Chewbacca missed, the entire sequel trilogy might have been drastically different â or even ended prematurely.
4) Beskar Spear

The conflict between the Mandalorians and the Jedi has existed for hundreds of years. Theyâve never been able to agree, and the Jedi canât simply dominate because the Mandalorians possess Beskar, a metal incredibly resistant to lightsaber attacks. Beskar is often used to create strong armor, but it can also be forged into powerful weapons.
Season two of The Mandalorian introduces a potential conflict between Ahsoka Tano and Morgan Elsbeth, who possesses a special Beskar spear. While Ahsoka is skilled enough to handle Elsbeth, the spear would be a dangerous weapon in the hands of a stronger opponent, potentially even defeating a lightsaber.
3) Amban Phase-Pulse Blaster

The Star Wars Holiday Special isnât exactly a classic. It’s mostly known for introducing Chewbaccaâs strange relatives and throwing Luke, Han, and Leia into some odd scenarios. The one bright spot is that it features the very first appearance of Boba Fett, and he has a cool, distinctive weapon.
In The Mandalorian, we see the Amban Phase-Pulse Blaster used in live-action for the first time. Din Djarin uses it on several missions, effectively stunning enemies with electric shocks and even stopping a group of troublesome Jawas. When Din can surprise his opponents, the Amban Phase-Pulse Blaster is one of the most dangerous weapons in the Star Wars universe.
2) DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol

In the world of Star Wars, cleverness is just as important as physical power. Obi-Wan Kenobi defeated Darth Vader on two occasions not through superior strength, but by using his intelligence. Similarly, Han Solo relies more on his wits than brute force, and his preferred weapon reflects that.
I always loved Han Soloâs blaster, the DL-44! It was key in some of his biggest moments â like when he shot Greedo, and even managed to get a few shots off at Vader. What really impressed me was how fast he could draw it. Honestly, if there had been more lightsaber-wielding enemies around back then, I think Han could have taken a few of them down, too!
1) Gaderffii Stick

Life is tough for the Tusken Raiders on the desert planet Tatooine, and most people there donât trust them, making them very cautious. However, the series The Book of Boba Fett shows us thereâs a hidden depth to this group. Boba Fett gets to know their culture and works with them to defend their territory.
Following the loss of his Tusken Raider companions, Boba Fett travels the galaxy carrying a traditional Gaderffii stick, and he’s quite formidable with it. While a lightsaber could easily break the stick if wielded improperly, in skilled hands, it’s a powerful weapon.
