A well-loved horror game, originally released for the Xbox 360 nearly 20 years ago, has been unexpectedly removed from digital stores. The Xbox 360 was known for its strong library of horror titles, including popular franchises like Dead Space, Left 4 Dead, BioShock, and F.E.A.R. Now, one of the platform’s earliest and most recognizable horror games is no longer available for purchase, and the reason why remains a mystery.
Recently, the horror game Condemned: Criminal Origins was removed from digital storefronts like the Microsoft Store and Steam. Originally released in 2005 as a launch title for the Xbox 360 and published by Sega, Condemned is remembered as one of the best horror games of that console’s early years. A sequel, Condemned 2: Bloodshot, followed in 2008, but the series hasn’t seen a new installment since. Many players have continued to enjoy Condemned over the years, and digital copies on Xbox and PC were the easiest way to play.
As of today, Sega hasn’t said why Condemned is no longer available on digital stores. Usually, games are removed from sale when licenses for things within the game expire. We don’t know for sure if that’s the reason in this case, but it’s our most likely explanation since Sega hasn’t offered one.
This Xbox 360 Delisting Could Be a Good Thing

Okay, so it’s weird that Condemned: Criminal Origins got pulled from Xbox and PC, but honestly, it might not be a bad thing. A lot of times when publishers do that, it’s because they’re planning a remaster or remake. We saw it happen with System Shock 2 – they took the original off Steam to get everyone to buy the new version. It’s a move that rubs some people the wrong way, but it’s pretty common in the gaming world.
It’s likely that Condemned was removed from digital stores to make way for a remastered or remade version. While there’s been no official announcement, Sega or another publisher might be planning a surprise reveal. A remaster would also be a smart way to see how much interest there still is in Condemned and whether fans would welcome a completely new game in the series.
Okay, so this is just a guess right now, so please don’t get too hyped! But if I find out anything more about why Condemned was taken off the store, I’ll definitely share the news here on ComicBook. I’m keeping my eyes peeled!
