Maye Musk is the center of a very full galaxy.
Just before Mother’s Day on May 10th, the model discussed her experience raising her children – Elon Musk, Kimbal Musk, and Tosca Musk – and being a grandmother to their nineteen children combined.
Maye, whose memoir Timeless comes out September 16th, told TopMob News that being a mother and now a grandmother is the greatest happiness in her life. She cherishes the time she spends with her family and has discovered that love flourishes best when it’s allowed to grow naturally, without being forced.
Because she’s 78 years old and shares her children with her ex-husband, Errol Musk, she likes to let them live their own lives and forge their own paths.
She explained that she’s consistently available to offer help, whether it’s through guidance, encouragement, or simply listening. However, she makes it a point to never pressure them to spend time with her.
She developed this outlook from her mother, Wyn Haldeman, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 98.
She always made me feel welcome without ever making me feel like I had to visit, and I truly enjoyed spending time with her. I remember her 90th birthday being filled with all five of her children and many generations of family who loved her very much. She didn’t need a special Mother’s Day – for her, every single day felt like Mother’s Day.
That’s precisely how Maye sees things. That’s also why she isn’t expecting any special treatment when she visits Elon, who has fourteen children with four different women.
She recounted a visit to SpaceX headquarters last October, telling TopMob she’d either stayed in a hotel 45 minutes away or, remarkably, in the company garage. When asked if the experience was glamorous, she dismissed the idea, explaining, ‘It was just a garage, full of boxes.’

Nevertheless, it was what the grandma preferred.
She explained that she’d prefer to sleep in her own bed instead of traveling to a hotel that was 45 minutes away. Because of that, she didn’t see the point in going at all.
As she put it, “I’d rather see my kids and grandkids than be in comfort.”

Oh my gosh, you won’t believe Maye’s story! She was actually born way up in Saskatchewan, Canada, but when she was just seven years old, her whole family moved all the way to Pretoria, South Africa in 1950! And get this – she and Elon’s dad, Errol Musk, sadly went their separate ways back in 1979. It’s just… fascinating, everything about her life!
Maye became a Canadian citizen automatically when she was born after Elon moved to Canada at age 17. She then built a career as a registered dietitian, eventually leading the Consulting Dietitians of Canada, and also worked as a model.
After selling his company Zip2 for over $300 million in 2019, Elon Musk bought an apartment in New York City for his mother. She lived there for 13 years and continued her modeling work, even signing with the IMG Models agency.
Maye shared in a CNBC essay that she raised her children with the same values her parents instilled in her: independence, kindness, honesty, thoughtfulness, and good manners. She also emphasized the importance of hard work and doing what’s right.

Elon’s father is an engineer and like Elon, was born in South Africa.
Despite mentioning in a 2015 Forbes interview that he frequently traveled abroad with his children—explaining that he raised them after a young divorce—his relationship with Elon Musk isn’t without its difficulties.
In a candid 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, Elon Musk spoke about his challenging childhood and his relationship with his father. He explained that after his parents divorced, living with his father proved to be a negative experience.
However, Errol told Rolling Stone, “I love my children and would readily do whatever for them.”
After his divorce from Maye, Errol married Heide, who had a four-year-old daughter named Jana Bezuidenhout. Errol and Heide later had two daughters of their own, but they eventually separated as well.
After experiencing her own heartbreak years later, Jana contacted Errol. In a 2018 interview with The Sunday Times, Errol described them both as lonely and lost individuals. He said one thing simply led to another—a connection he playfully attributed to fate or natural inclination.
The couple fell in love and had a son, Elliott, in 2017, followed by a daughter in 2019. Errol explained to The Sun that he believes the purpose of life is to have children, stating he would gladly have more if he could, seeing no reason not to.

Born in 1972, Kimbal is a restaurant owner and the creator of The Kitchen, a group of five restaurants committed to sourcing ingredients directly from local farms. He also leads Big-Green, a non-profit organization that has established 200 educational gardens in schools throughout the United States.
Tosca, a filmmaker born in 1974, created Passionflix in 2017. Passionflix is a streaming service designed for women and aims to capture a share of the large and popular romance novel market.

Elon Musk married Justine Wilson, his college sweetheart from Queen’s University in Canada, in 2000. In a 2010 article for Marie Claire titled “I Was a Starter Wife: Inside America’s Messiest Divorce,” Justine recalled that Elon told her during their wedding reception, “I am the alpha in this marriage.”
At the time, I didn’t think much of it,” Justine explained, “much like I later dismissed signing the postnuptial agreement. However, it eventually became clear that he was being genuine about what he said.”
Justine and her partner experienced a heartbreaking loss when their baby son, Nevada Alexander, tragically passed away in 2002 at just 10 weeks old from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). As Justine described, Nevada was put down for a nap on his back – as they always did – and simply stopped breathing.
After struggling to conceive, the couple used IVF and eventually had five more children: twins Vivian and Griffin, and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian.
In 2008, Elon filed for divorce.

In 2022, Elon Musk shared that he brought his children, Griffin and the triplets, to meet Pope Francis. Although honored to meet the head of the Catholic Church, Elon jokingly described his suit as “tragic.”

In 2022, Griffin’s twin sister also petitioned the court to legally change her name to reflect her gender identity. As part of this process, she stated she wanted no further contact or legal connection with their biological father.
In July 2024, Elon Musk publicly discussed his daughter’s gender transition. In an interview with Jordan Peterson for the Daily Wire, he stated he felt like he had “lost his son,” and described his child—whom he referred to by her birth name—as having been affected by what he called the “woke mind virus.”
He claimed he was misled into signing medical paperwork that allowed Vivian to receive gender-affirming care.
Vivian disagreed with his statements, telling NBC News, “He wasn’t tricked at all. He was fully aware of the potential side effects.”
In a 2025 interview with Teen Vogue, Vivian shared that she moved from Los Angeles to Japan and hasn’t spoken with her father since 2020. She described him as immature, saying, “I’m not afraid of him, no matter how much money he has.”

Elon and Talulah, both known for their roles on HBO’s Westworld, got married in 2010. Talulah later told CBS News that things moved quickly – they were engaged after only about two weeks of dating.
The couple first divorced in 2012, then surprised everyone by getting back together and remarrying in 2013. However, they divorced again in 2016. More recently, in June 2024, Talulah married Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who is known for his role in the film Love Actually.

Elon Musk and Amber Heard began dating publicly in early 2017, following both of their divorces – hers from Johnny Depp and his from Talulah Riley (this was his second marriage). However, their relationship was short-lived.
In a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, Elon Musk revealed he had recently gone through a breakup. He admitted he was deeply in love and that the split was very painful, adding that his girlfriend had initiated the breakup more than he did.

Elon Musk and singer Grimes had an on-again, off-again relationship for four years, beginning in 2018. In September 2021, Musk told Page Six they were “semi-separated” because his work with SpaceX and Tesla kept him mostly in Texas or abroad, while Grimes’ work was based in Los Angeles. At the time, Grimes was staying with him, and their child was nearby.
In March 2022, she revealed to Vanity Fair that they live in separate homes but remain close as best friends.
She later shared on Twitter that she and E had split up again as of the time of the article, but emphasized that he remains her best friend and the love of her life. She also stated that her life and work are now fully focused on ‘The Mission’.
In September 2023, the singer known as “Crystal Ball” revealed they and their partner have three children. Their newest child, Techno Mechanicus, joins big brother X Æ A-12 and sister Exa Dark Sideræl.
In November 2024, Grimes shared that she had been involved in a year-long legal struggle in a state with unfavorable laws regarding parental rights. She stated that her Instagram posts and modeling work were used against her in a dispute over her children, and that this was happening while she was also separating from the person she loved, who she felt was changing into someone she didn’t recognize.
Despite being severely limited in what she could bring to bear, she was denied access to one of her children for five months. She explained that this was just the part of her story she could share publicly, as much of what she’d experienced over the past few years needed to remain private.

In 2020, Elon Musk and Grimes had a son. They originally chose a unique name, but had to simplify the spelling to comply with California law, which only allows English letters. They ultimately named him X Æ A-Xii.
Grimes shared the meaning behind her child’s unique name on social media. She explained that ‘X’ represents an unknown variable, ‘Æ’ is her elven-inspired way of spelling ‘AI’ – short for love and/or artificial intelligence – and ‘A-12’ is a reference to the SR-17 aircraft, which she describes as being all about speed, not weaponry. She envisions it as being powerful in a fight, but ultimately non-violent.
Grimes continued, “A=Archangel, my favorite song” adding a rat and sword emoji. “Metal rat.”

Grimes shared in a 2022 interview with Vanity Fair that she and Elon Musk secretly had a daughter through surrogacy.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by how big concepts influence our everyday thinking. I recently learned that ‘Exa,’ as in the name of a new product, actually comes from the world of supercomputers – it refers to their incredible speed, specifically the ability to perform a quintillion calculations every second! And ‘Dark’? It’s not about negativity at all. Scientifically, it’s simply the absence of light – photons, to be exact. It’s really about the unknown, and honestly, that’s where a lot of the universe’s beauty lies – in those wonderful mysteries like dark matter.
Sideræl (pronounced sigh-deer-ee-el) is what my mom calls the universe’s real time – a time based on stars and deep space, rather than our everyday Earth time. It’s also a reference to Galadriel, a character from Lord of the Rings, who chooses to give up the One Ring.
Walter Isaacson revealed in his biography Elon Musk that Exa was born in December 2021 via surrogate.
The book reveals that around Father’s Day in 2022, the couple, who had an on-and-off relationship, welcomed a son named Techno Mechanicus, but they call him Tau. The baby was born through surrogacy, and the book features a June 2022 photo of Elon feeding him.
Grimes has repeatedly asked for her children to be kept out of the public eye, even trying legal options, but hasn’t been successful. She’s deeply worried about the impact of this constant attention on their lives and says she thinks about it constantly, finding it frustrating that there’s no clear solution.

In 2022, court records revealed that Elon Musk had twins with Shivon Zilis, an executive at his company Neuralink. The twins were born in Austin, Texas, where Musk resides.
He also commented on the report via X, stating he’s “doing his best to help the underpopulation crisis,” and that a declining birth rate poses the greatest threat to civilization.
“Mark my words,” he added, “they are sadly true.”
A recent biography of Elon Musk disclosed the full names of his twins: Strider Sekhar Sirius and Azure Astra Alice. Musk explained that Strider’s name came from the nickname of Aragorn, a character in The Lord of the Rings, and in honor of the late physicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. Azure’s name, he shared, was inspired by a spell from the video game Elden Ring.

Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis had their third child together on February 28, 2024. Musk confirmed the birth to Page Six in June, explaining that just because they didn’t announce it with a press release doesn’t mean it was a secret. He stated everyone close to them already knew.
A year after opening, Shivon wrote on Twitter, “Happy birthday, Arcadia! I love you so much.”

The classic poem goes, “Roses are red, violets are blue,” and on Valentine’s Day 2025, conservative personality Ashley St. Clair had some news to share.
The author of ‘Elephants Are Not Birds’ announced on X (formerly Twitter) February 14th that she and Elon Musk had a son, named Romulus, after the founder of Rome. She explained she had kept the news private to protect her child, but felt compelled to share it because the media planned to reveal the information anyway, potentially causing harm.
She explained that she wants their child to have a normal, secure upbringing. Therefore, she requested the media respect their child’s privacy and avoid overly intrusive reporting.
Following reports that her representative asked Elon Musk to publicly recognize his role as a father to their child, she claimed he reduced the financial support he provides for the baby. This led Musk to respond to the allegations on social media.
He posted on X on March 31st that he’s unsure if he’s the father of the child, but he’s open to finding out. He also revealed he’s already given Ashley $2.5 million and continues to send her $500,000 each year.
She could have received even more money, according to an April article in the Wall Street Journal. It claimed that Elon Musk’s employee, Jared Birchall, offered Ashley $15 million plus $100,000 monthly in child support if she didn’t reveal details about their child.
However, Ashley said she told him, “I don’t want my son to feel like he’s a secret.”

Elon and Shivon announced the birth of their fourth child, a son named Seldon Lycurgus, on February 28, 2025. They shared the news while celebrating their third child’s first birthday.
I spoke with Elon, and because of Arcadia’s birthday, we decided to share some news about our amazing son, Seldon Lycurgus. He’s strong and kind, and we love him dearly.
Elon responded with a heart emoji.
