Godzilla is experiencing a major comeback! This year alone, Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters brought the MonsterVerse back to North American audiences, and Toho is releasing the critically acclaimed Godzilla Minus One. With even more Godzilla projects already planned, fans are eager to see some of his classic enemies return to challenge his dominance.
5.) Hedorah

I’ve always thought Hedorah was the most unsettling monster Godzilla ever faced, and it’s strange that we haven’t seen it in decades after its debut back in 1970. For anyone unfamiliar, Hedorah first appeared in the 1971 film Godzilla Vs. Hedorah as an alien creature that somehow landed on Earth. Beyond being a strong opponent for Godzilla, Hedorah was terrifying because it thrived on pollution, and could change from a roughly human-like shape into a flying, disc-like form that would drain the life from anything it touched. Whether Toho brings it back in a future Godzilla World project or they decide to reboot it for the MonsterVerse, Hedorah is a classic kaiju that really deserves another appearance, especially considering how long it’s been absent from movies.
4.) Jet Jaguar

Jet Jaguar is a unique character in the world of Godzilla. While he often clashes with Godzilla, he isn’t really a villain. First appearing in the 1973 film Godzilla Vs. Megalon, this giant robot was created by scientists to protect humanity from any danger, whether it comes from Earth or outer space. Jet Jaguar has continued to show up in various Godzilla projects, like anime and video games. However, he hasn’t been featured in the recent live-action movies. Interestingly, Matt Fraction, the showrunner for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, really wants to include Jet Jaguar in the MonsterVerse, so there’s still a chance we might see him!
3.) Destroyah

Destroyah is a memorable Godzilla villain because of both its incredible power and its unique backstory. First appearing in the 1995 film Godzilla Vs. Destroyah, this winged monster was born from the very weapon that originally killed Godzilla. Created by the “Oxygen Destroyer,” Destroyah was a constantly evolving creature, making it a truly frightening addition to Godzilla’s collection of enemies. Fans have waited decades to see Destroyah return, and its re-emergence as a major threat to Godzilla – whether in Japanese or American films – would be fantastic.
2.) Biollante

Biollante is a truly unique monster born from a bizarre experiment: mixing Godzilla’s DNA with plant life. First appearing in the 1989 film Godzilla Vs. Biollante, this creature is unsettling to behold, and even more frightening in battle. Often seen as a dark reflection of Godzilla himself, fans have been eager to see Biollante return, with many hoping for an appearance in the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Sadly, that didn’t happen – Titan X ended up being the main villain this season. Hopefully, Biollante will get another chance to shine after being absent for so long.
1.) Space Godzilla

Out of all the monsters discussed in this article, Space Godzilla is the most likely to return. Earlier this year, a writing credit for the upcoming film Godzilla x Kong: Supernova listed him as being included. First appearing in the 1994 film Godzilla Vs. Space Godzilla, this unique monster was created when some of Godzilla’s cells were sent into space. With the next MonsterVerse movie coming in 2027, we might see a fresh version of this powerful creature, who is even stronger than Mechagodzilla and shares a connection to Godzilla.
