PS5 Will Be Able to Play One of Fall 2026’s Biggest Games Earlier Than Other Platforms

A major game launching this fall will be playable on PS5 several days before it’s available on other consoles. It’s become common for game publishers to let players who buy more expensive versions of games access new releases a little early. While these early access periods are usually short, they’re popular with dedicated fans. However, this practice is facing more criticism because an upcoming game is exclusively offering early access to PlayStation players.

This week, Remedy Entertainment announced that Control Resonant, the follow-up to their popular 2019 game Control, will be released on September 24th. Currently, Resonant looks set to be a major game launch in late 2026, considering Remedy’s success with recent titles. Both Control and Alan Wake 2 have earned the studio critical acclaim and several Game of the Year nominations.

Although Control Resonant is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC this September, early access will only be available on PS5. Players who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition will get to start playing before everyone else, with full game access unlocking 48 hours early on September 22nd.

It’s understandable that Xbox and PC players feel this is unfair, as Remedy is currently offering early access only to PlayStation 5 users. While Remedy hasn’t explained the reason, it’s likely due to a promotional partnership with PlayStation that grants them this exclusive benefit.

Let’s hope Remedy doesn’t start relying on these types of delays. The studio is already planning remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2 with Rockstar Games, and a sequel to Alan Wake is also likely, though it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
