A major question surrounding the upcoming game, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, is who will be playable. Only two teams have been announced so far: Doctor Doom’s villains and Ghost Rider’s anti-heroes. Fans are eagerly speculating about which Marvel characters might join those leaders, and a new clue in the game’s latest trailer offers some potential answers for this 4v4 fighting game.
The new trailer for “Fighting Avengers” showed Hulk and Black Panther teaming up with Captain America and Iron Man – characters originally revealed when the game was first announced. This lineup isn’t a surprise to most fans, and the revealed teams of Unbreakable X-Men and Amazing Guardians also fit expectations. However, the trailer didn’t reveal all the playable characters; at least six slots remain a mystery, leaving fans wondering who will join the fight.
5. Carnage

The latest trailer for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls included a surprising hint about the villain Carnage, a notorious enemy of Venom and Spider-Man. As the trailer showed the game’s team leaders, a series of clues appeared, including the number “361” flashing repeatedly. Comic book fans quickly recognized this as a reference to The Amazing Spider-Man #361, published in 1992, which featured Carnage’s very first appearance.
Someone as dangerous as Carnage would be a natural fit for Doctor Doom’s team, even though Carnage’s chaotic personality is very different from Doom’s calm and controlled nature. It makes sense that Doom would try to control someone like Carnage, and there’s another clue suggesting this connection. The same image that shows the number “361” also features Spider-Man with crossed-out eyes, which suggests a rivalry between them. While several of Spider-Man’s enemies could be involved, these clues together strongly suggest Carnage is the one Doom has chosen.
4. Green Goblin

Looking closely at the distorted screen at the end of the Avengers trailer, it’s clear the whole image has a green tint. Combined with the scratched-out eyes, many fans are speculating that Spider-Man’s biggest enemy might be joining the team – the Green Goblin. Known for his villainy and the leadership role of his alter ego, Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin would be a formidable addition.
Given their history, a team-up between Norman Osborn and Doctor Doom could draw from various comic storylines, including times when Osborn led a group of villains. Past comics like Dark Reign and the Dark Avengers saga have already shown Osborn and Doom working together, making another collaboration plausible. Additionally, Osborn has sometimes bonded with the Carnage symbiote, transforming into the Red Goblin – a combination of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies, which could connect to the earlier “361” hint.
3. Sabretooth

Doctor Doom could likely enlist Victor Creed, better known as Sabretooth, to fight against heroes like Wolverine and the Unbreakable X-Men in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Sabretooth frequently aligns with whoever offers him a chance for a good fight. While Magneto is also expected to appear in Marvel Tōkon, Sabretooth’s presence would directly affect the story of at least one other character.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been pouring over the new Avengers trailer, and I noticed something really interesting! The final image is covered in claw marks, and the letters ‘EA’ and ‘EX’ are all ripped up. That ‘EX’ has me thinking – could this be a hint at the X-Men joining the fray? Specifically, I think it could be setting up Sabretooth as a villain. He’s a fantastic fighter, and I loved him in games like X-Men vs Street Fighter. It’d be awesome to see him back, especially since characters like Magneto have already gotten so much attention in fighting games.
2. Lilith

A popular fan theory suggests that Doctor Doom will assemble a team of rivals, with each member opposing another team. This idea stems from the trailer and the fact that Doctor Doom is known as an enemy of the Avengers, a connection likely to be explored in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. If this pattern holds, villains like Carnage or Green Goblin could be positioned against the Amazing Guardians, while Sabretooth or Magneto might battle the Unbreakable X-Men. For Ghost Rider’s team, the mystical Lilith could serve as their primary rival.
Lilith is often the last boss in games like Marvel’s Midnight Suns, but she’d be a strong villain for any team of Marvel’s supernatural heroes. The Midnight Sons – including characters like Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Blade, and Elsa Bloodstone – frequently battle villains such as Lilith or Blackheart. Because she’s a powerful dark magic user, Lilith would be a particularly good opponent for Scarlet Witch, if rumors about her inclusion in the game are true. Considering Doctor Doom’s own magical abilities, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him team up with Lilith as well.
1. Loki

The green color seen in a recent preview for the new “Fighting Avengers” game has sparked speculation. While it could hint at Doctor Doom, it might also point to other green Marvel characters. If clues about “361” and Spider-Man’s eyes confirm the appearance of Carnage, the green could instead be a reference to Loki, Thor’s mischievous brother. The story could even explain why Loki is involved instead of Thor, perhaps suggesting Loki has tricked his brother into staying out of the game’s events.
The brief appearance of “#5” during the green screen glitch likely references The Fantastic Four #5, the 1962 comic book that introduced Doctor Doom. This suggests Doctor Doom and his team might be revealed next month, coinciding with the anniversary of The Avengers movie. Loki’s reveal could be timed with this celebration, highlighting the character who served as the main villain in what many consider the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Even without knowing who will be on Doctor Doom or Ghost Rider’s teams, a single image from the Avengers trailer has sparked a lot of exciting speculation. This shows how appealing the character lineup in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls could be for fans eager to see their favorite Marvel heroes and villains.
